Hey everyone,

I’m looking into changing the wheel studs on my Dark Horse and wanted to hear from anyone who has done it.

How difficult is the job overall? Is it something reasonably manageable with basic tools, or does it usually turn into a bigger project?

Also, are the front and rear stud replacements essentially the same process, or is one end more involved than the other?

Any tips, lessons learned, or things to watch out for would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks. Are the front wheels the same?

Which ones are you installing?

+1/2"

Long story short: I installed 20mm bolt ons on my MACH 1, but it was too aggressive and during installation I had to shave the studs 2-3 mms.

On my Darkhorse I want narrower spacers, thinking about 12-15mm and those require 1/2" longer studs.

Thanks

BTW - fronts are easier since don't require hub dissasembly as per "Murphy's Garage" answer.

I’ve replaced the rear studs once and the front twice. The rear replacement requires removing the hubs, but the front can be done with the hubs mounted to the car. The actual stud removal and install is not bad if you have the proper tools.

This is what I used for the install as the stud manufacturer said to press the studs in rather than using the type where it is pulled on using a lug nut.

Out of curiosity, why did you replace the rear studs?
