So it is "ok," meaning it sounded better to you the way you had it before, with the longer resonators and H pipe?

I see those are 2.5"Yes it definitely sounded better with the H pipe and Vibrants. But the Vibrants muted the sound a little to much.
I think the H pipe with either of the smaller Totalflow
resonators would be perfect.![]()
Here was the post in which Q6543 described the muffler he put in place of his resonator. He picked up e.t and mph with headers, installed a Whipple, and picked up e.t. and mph with the muffler in place of the resonator, probably due to 3" pipes all the way through.![]()

So looking at these photos, it appears that the stock resonator, while being directly a flow through, has only 2.25" pipes.
The stock system reduces at the connection.
Even on the H-Pipe crossover picture, there is a reduction in exhaust size. Look where the exhaust connects into the H pipe, there is a sudden, dramatic pipe size reduction.
Does anybody know what size that stock pipe is before the reduction?
I am wondering if there is horsepower to be gained by keeping the pipe at this larger size (whatever it is) as far back as possible until the stock active exhaust mufflers?
I know @Q6543 used an aftermarket dual input muffler setup in place of the stock resonator with, going by memory, was 3" diameter all the way through?

I put a pair of these Jegs bullet mufflers on my car, basically smaller resonators. Other brands are bigger and have more packing but for the price and size I figured what the hell.
They don't make the car that much quieter but just sound better because they take all the blapap bapapapap crackablaapa out (especially at part throttle when it's most annoying) and smooth it out to just a 'mmmmmmmmm', like a lower pitched booming noise.
Hard to find a decent muffler shop otherwise I would have went there first so the could measure and I could have gotten the longest possible one in there.

I'd be interested in seeing the power difference on a dyno of the stock pipes with the active exhaust vs 3" before the active exhaust...It seems like getting rid of that 2.25" pinch would contribute to power, and Q6543 said his was actually quieter with the 3" muffler setup
I was thinking maybe headers, a full three inch pipe from the headers into the three inch jones dual maxflow muffler in place of the stock resonator (still 3") with three inch out until close to the mufflers, at which point I would reduce it to 2.5" to fit into the active exhaust mufflers.
Then there is no 2.25" restriction anywhere in the system, and the exhaust should be cooled off quite a bit by the time it gets near the muffler, meaning a little less gas volume, so the 2.5" will not be an impediment to flow.
Q6543 posted his real world results (e.t. and mph difference) changing nothing more than getting rid of the 2.25" kink and installing the 3" dual muffler in place of the Ford factory stock resonator. It was significant, but he was already supercharged at that point and pushing a lot of exhaust gases. Guys are out there making over 900rwhp and running 9.0's with a full 2.5" exhaust (including factory mufflers) after the headers
I just want to see what the difference is on the dyno is. Is it 10? 20? 50? If you think about it, though, it makes sense, right?

Does that mean he would not pick up mph on a better, freer flowing exhaust system?
3" is a waste IMO if you're going to just put a 2.5" on the end of it, but again there's only one way to see the actual numbers. and guys are making big power through the factory 2.5" mufflersAnyway, those are my thoughts. Apparently there is a 2.5" pipe from the factory manifolds back to the resonator, where it necks down to 2.25"
After the resonator, the restriction opens back up to 2.5"
So 2.5" exhaust with a slightly more restrictive (quarter inch) resonator section.
So my thoughts were that headers with a 3" pipe into 3" dual inlet/outlet muffler in place of the resonator, reduced to 2.5" ahead of the factory active exhaust mufflers, would be very free flowing and as quiet as possible under the circumstances.
Would it pick up more than just slapping on headers (3 mph and .3 seconds) - I don't know. I probably won't do it, anyway . . .
