Got this letter today…

As I understand it, this highly important recall… is going to replace the VIN sticker(s)…? That’s it?

Yeah, it's a VIN label replacement due to regulatory requirements. It seems like y'all, mainland European countries and the US are in a contest to see who can have the most onerous vehicle regulation scheme to navigate.

Honestly right now I think the USA is winning on that front but I have to admit, a VIN label recall is on the extreme side.

Wow weird, but yes it seems pretty straight forward. The VIN must be incorrect or something and they have to give it a new one.
Automotive Context: In the automotive industry, homologation refers to the certification process that allows a vehicle to be sold in a specific market. Had to look that word up. LOL , I wouldn't worry about it just get it done at your convenience.

Stickers like this are associated with a product made in the tens of thousands or greater, changing hands several times, with a lifespan of up to 20 years plus.

The placard references topics involving emissions, roadworthiness, safety and maintenance standards.

I realize these things can appear trivial, but similar stickers exist on aircraft parts, medical devices and communications equipment.

Does anyone need to rush down to their dealer and get the issue corrected immediately? No. But it'd be a good idea to get it done, in the EU, or if the recall existed in the US, any of the states which perform safety and emissions inspections.

I get it. But sometimes, these stickers are all someone (the customs official at the importing dock) has to reference. Or will reference.

YMMV.

Recall for a sticker seems simpler than saying bring it in so we can imprint a number

There is now a Ford, "What can we think of to recall next" department. There has to be. Qualifications are probably an Ivy League degree with PHD.

It would be interesting to hear exactly which label they change, and what field(s) on that label was/were incorrect. Based on the estimated time to fix, I seriously doubt it is the dash VIN label visible through the windshield. Whew!

Well… I took it in for this and the BCM recall.

I was told that this procedure was done (“I think they just replace the stickers” the woman in service said)…

…and yet the VIN numbers remain the same - windscreen and inside the door show the same VIN they always did, which is per my Ford app and the recall letter above.

So… 🤷🏼

I’m now worried they maybe didn’t do the BCM either - I have had quite the experience with this dealership in the two months of owning the car. I have a FOURTH visit coming up in Dec for (hopefully) the final issue outstanding with the car. Full sorry story to follow once it’s done and I’m free from a seemingly endless to-do list of stupid minor issues.

I wonder if it is the sticker on the B pillar that has all the paint, axle and other info or a secondary label that just says it meets X Standard on Y date

Those are not gong to be sitting on a shelf or printed in house, those are tightly controlled

When I worked at TASCA Ford we could get replacement labels with the VIN to replace a damaged one or one that had to go on a replacement B pillar.

We needed the old one back though.

Some of the German car makers will re create them but they have to be applied at the dealer, no over the counter sales or sales to shops/wholesale customers

If it is just some boiler plate language sticker saying it met Z standard on Y date those are a dime a dozen
