MMR takes the 24' GT to Buttonwillow Raceway for the Speed Ventures Mustang Time Trial Challenge (competition for fastest lap)

We should start by saying that normal driving the car is just fine.

At the track however our base GT (that lacks a bumper mounted oil cooler like the darkhorse) overheated instantly on every lap. The Track is about 2 mins long, each session the car started the lap at normal operating temp and about 3/4 lap oil temp was in the red and the car is limited to 4500rpm (and possibly other ecu limiters).

Next issue is the clutch/transmission, again, normal driving is just fine, but at the track, the clutch pedal would stick to the floor at least once per lap and sometime would not come up but the car seemed to be in neutral (but wasnt) , this may be a throwout bearing issue or Ford has added some drivetrain protections.

We will have the overheating sorted out shortly and will offer the oil cooler kits later this week on the website in the 24' section. The clutch/trans issue might take some more time to figure out so stay tuned on that.

‘ the clutch pedal would stick to the floor’ stick or pull itself down/in? What were the rpm’s at the time?

edit: or just overheating?

Why does 4500 sound familiar?

Stick to the floor sometimes, other times it would come up but the car was still not engaged (acted like a missed gear but was not)

There are lots of RPM limiters depending on the failure, the 4500rpm was at a glance so dont hold us to that exactly but certainly right around that rpm. This seemed unrelated to the clutch issues.

Hmmm. I really want to track the GT, this might be a deal breaker for me if this is a widespread issue.

We will have you covered on the oil cooler part , the clutch part is strange and concerning, we are doing more research on this to figure out what is happening.

There was a thread where a guys new GT wouldnt rev over 4500 RPM - manual transmission car as well
Pretty sure that guy was stuck in Limp Mode. Wonder if he took it in to the dealership.

Wonder if the clutch issue has anything to do with the newly added pressure damper/restrictor in the line.

Something funny is going on, like we mentioned in some other threads , the car was in 4th gear, clutch pedal released and car acted like it was in neutral, which without ECU intervention we do not know how this can happen (other than clutch slippage which it definitely was not). Within the engine compartment the line going to the clutch looks business as usual, perhaps under the car or under the dash at the pedal there are other things going on?? It would make sense that there is a solenoid perhaps on the pressure line going to the throwout bearing, if closed while the clutch was depressed the pedal would stick to the floor - which it did numerous times.....

Is the clutch fluid reservoir and brake reservoir one in the same? Did you swap the fluid out to DOT4? You may be boiling the clutch fluid?

This is disappointing to read.

Thankfully, we have the aftermarket.

I have not had any clutch problems with mine. Of course, I don’t race it like that, but have started getting it moving a little more than I was. Getting it up to 4500 RPM’s now. Starting to feel the speed finally
