What's better for fall and winter with snow? All season or winter tires? Right now I'm running stock Pirelli Pzero run flat summers 255 F 275 R so I'm gonna have to get some new tires soon when the season changes as the s650 convertible GT premium PP/Magnaride is my daily... first sports car so learning as I go, and is staggered like I have now or square set up best for fall/winter? Please educate the newbie!

In Maryland snow I ran AS tires with my RWD vehicles. But if the snow was bad I left them home.

I have a complete set of winter tires on Ford Performance Wheels here in Canada.

Buy a set of wheels at 19" x 9" . Ford has a wheel. Tirerack has many options.
Use 255/45/19 snow tires. No need for staggered tires to have 275/45/19 on rear in winter on PP.

Having two sets of mounted wheels with tires allows you to easily switch between seasons.

275/40 or 274/45? That is almost a 29" tall tire

I think he meant 255-40x19

I have a set of dedicated winter wheels that I run with the 255-40x19 front and back. The difference in MPH is negligible from the 275-40x19 on the rear. I think at 70 mph the speedometer shows 71.

Personally I’d go with a beater with a heater and some winter tires. You might be an excellent winter driver but many of the other people on the road aren’t! My convertible stays in the garage during the winter.

AS or dedicated snows?

Depends on how winters are in your area. Dedicated snows (e.g. Bridgestone Blizzaks, General Ultimax Arctics, etc) will absolutely outperform ASs on snow and ice. BUT, they will melt off your wheels at temps over 45F (and I'm thinking Reno is pretty warm 7 months of the year), so you'll definitely want to get your summer tires back on your Mustang in a timely (for your area) fashion.

If you don't think you'll get much more than a couple of inches of snow and little to no icy roads during your winter; ASs would likely do you fine. I highly recommend Continental Extreme Contact DWS Plus 06s.

@Pacerdhs is right about the Tire Rack. You don't have to buy from them but their tire selection tools, customer and professional ratings, and tire info (specs) are first rate. As is their customer service/consulting.

Best of luck with whatever you go with!

why the different MPH? PP comes with 9.5 inch width on rear. 19 x 9 on front and 19 x 9.5 on rear. Going with 9 inch width should not impact mph

Bridgestone Blizzaks 100% the best then Yokohama had a really good winter that I liked. Another pro tip, get a package of singles for the trunk and you’ll be in good shape. My winter solution nowadays is an Explorer St November to March.

It's not the width of the wheel, but the size of the tire.

Performance package uses a 275-40x19 on the rear and 255-40x19 on the front. So if you use a 255-40x19 on the rear, like the fronts, there will be a MPH difference due to the change of height and tire revolution per mile.

275 is 27.66" tall and 452.78 rpm and the 255 is 27.03" tall and 746.11 rpm.
At 70 mph the 255 tire will actually be doing 71.63 mph - so if the speedometer is reading at 71, you are doing 70. The speed is read from the rear tires.

Wheel width has nothing to do with it.

Sadly in New Hampshire they salt the roads so I won't drive the Mustang on the roads until the spring rains. That said, I'm lucky to have the F350 with a plow for the winter which I undercoat as a prevent to the corrosive salts.
