Wondering if I can get wider rear tires without making any modifications. I looked into wheel spacers but it sounds like they add a lot of wear and tear on the suspension components. I drive a lot so I don’t want to add unnecessary wear. Current tire size is 255 / 19s. Would love to get a staggered look but not sure which route to take to achieve it. I’m assuming that if I want to put wider tires on, I’d have to change the wheel itself to accommodate the width?

You can probably go as wide as 275. As an example, below are specs for a Michelin Pilot Sport 4s in 275/40r19. The range of rim widths is 9-11 for that tire. Your stock wheels are probably 8.5 or 9 inches wide. A 275 isn't a whole lot wider, and technically a 275 in that tire is too wide for 8.5 width. Overall you're much better off getting wider wheels.

All you have to make sure is the wider tires don't rub on any suspension components and the aspect ratio (xxx/Aspect/XX) is adjusted to give your new tires the same overall diameter or within 3% of the ones you're replacing. Use the tire comparison tool here to find diameter https://tiresize.com/calculator/
