A mostly sunny day and warmer temperatures, so the new Mustang needed to get out of the barn. South Park, Independence Pass, and Cottonwood Pass. 310 miles. The Mustang really enjoyed the sprint up the west side of Cottonwood — so did I! Definitely A Rocky Mountain High kind of day!

Beautiful scenery, beautiful car!

Because we live in South Dakota and I also enjoy the mountains, a couple of my favorite routes to travel are thru the Bighorn Mountains (Hwy 14 A is the most scenic route) and Hwy 212 from Red Lodge, MT over the Beartooth Pass into Cooke City, MT. From Cooke City it's just a couple of miles and you enter into Yellowstone National Park from the north.

Another scenic route in Montana is traveling over Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park.

Thanks for your post.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I’m an old man and love to travel. Have done all those roads (fabulous) on motorcycles and my 2022 Ecoboost, which grew into the GT V8. Hnnn, guess I need to do them again in this car.

one of my favorite photos of the ‘22 was at the top of the pass on Chief Joseph Hwy. I made a scurried and fun drive to the top from Beartooth in order to catch the sunset.

Beautiful picture, again thanks for posting it.

We do have something in common (besides being old) I also rode a motorcycle on each of those routes, a Honda Goldwing.

Beautiful pictures. I have only gotten the mustang out in the mountains twice since buying it in 2023. It seems like whenever I head out in the mountains I’m in my truck or Xterra 4 wheeling. I’ll have to add this drive to my bucket list.

Have you driven the million dollar highway yet?

I’ve lived in Colorado 38 years and rode motorcycles for most of those. Million Dollar Highway probably 50-100 times. Motorcycles. Jeep Wrangler. My 22 Mustang. And already with my 25 GT. First time was in 1975 on a Honda CB550. My buddy was on a Yamaha RD400. Amazing! We were so poor back then!

Beautiful ride, beautiful car,
great color.
I didn’t know independence pass was open. I know Trail Ridge Road should be plowed opened the last week of May unless they get more Snow?
What fun in the High Country of Colorado?

Cottonwood, Independence, and Guanella opened last weekend. Trail Ridge opened today….with icy conditions. Good times ahead!
