This thread peaked my curiousity, so I looked for DH w/manual in my area. Only found 3 new ones, but 2 of them were strongly discounted.

Heck, I could now buy a new one for less than I sold mine for a few months ago. Thousands less.

As the DH/SC begins hitting the street this summer/fall I’d expect N/A dark horses to show up on the used market by the hundreds if not thousands… it’s time is over, people will want the supercharged 5.2, except the DCT whiners and 3 pedal army, but they’re already too slow to catch up

For the price of a DH, you are at low trim level Vette pricing and sometimes even 2LT level.

I know when I bought my car in 2024, I was at the absolute top of what I would spend for a Mustang, and now the same car is a good $5000 more and frankly I would not spend that kind of money for what this car is.

I look at what GT's with PP and other options, or DH's cost and I can not think of any situation where I would drop that kind of money for what the car is.

Frankly I'd be looking at a M3 or other car

This is spot on from my perspective. The cost of the DH is to high. I almost went Corvette but the dealership dropped the price and I was able to cash in the 3500 rebate that ford allowed on the DH for a short time period.

Yes I'm also part of the 3 pedal army. I dont drag race so the time saved in an automatic means nothing to me. If the DH was only automatic it wouldnt have been a choice over the Corvette. Once my truck is paid off a Grand Sport Corvette gets put in the garage.

I too considered a C8, looked at both the E-Ray and Z06, but I'm too tall and it's not at all comfortable. I also think the Mustang looks better. I love the E-Ray and now GSX powertrains for the C8. I do think of the Vette as still an "old man's car" though, LOL.

It'll be interesting to see if Dodge gets the Hellcat and/or Redeye into the new 2 door Chargers now or what Chevy does with a possible Camaro.

Ha! This was the answer is got from friends and family when I asked which one i should buy. A common response was I would need white new balance shoes and jean shorts.

I'm only 5'8" so the vette fit me. Hopefully Chevy doesn't screw up the camero.

IMO DHs are sitting on lots for a few reasons -

1. Price. They're overpriced for what they are. As mentioned above, a lower trim Vette, used Porsche, or M3 isnt much farther away in that price range.

2. Demand. They are track focused, specially Mustangs that that have a very niche demographic in a competitive market. See #1.

3. Performance. There isnt enough HP separation from the GT. Unless you get the Tremec, its just a slightly warmed up GT from a Performance standpoint. Thats not a knock on the car (they are great). But the average buyer will never use it on the track to appreciate the extra cooling.

4. Economy. We are in a K shaped economy. People with money are doing great and buying more expensive cars with premium import names. Lower middle class people are struggling and cant afford an expensive and impractical high end mustang. Very few people are in between right now.

Now is a great time to scoop one up for a deal if you're in the market for sure! I pitty the people who paid dealer markups 2-3 years ago.

Why - Economics and Demographics.


The Mustang has historically had a fan following and demand from a very specific demographic group - Middle Younger American Worker - which has been the marketing target over the past several decades. That demographic also overlaps an economic gap in the current financial world.

That demographic is generally more focused on beggining of / earlier adult life things - like family which is extremely expensive. This takes away from disposable income for luxuries and toys. In todays world of inflation - This translates to food, basic utility, and livability only.

Additionally, Mustang, and now especially DH variants, are not practical or truly realistic as a family throw everyone in for go everywhere and all the things primary driver. Don't get me wrong, people do accomplish this, however, I know mine has a worthless backseat. Trucks and SUVs work much better for this.

Available and disposable income in that demographic is generally far more limited unless you are in the top 15% of income earners in the age and demographic group. This has been cemented by post "covid" era fiscal leftover problems.

This narrows the market with purchasing power, interest in the form factor of the product, and available capital down quickly.

Additionally, manufacturing costs have sky rocketed - raw material, supply chain, taxes, licensing, labor, machinery to manufacture, import export costs on components (yes, MOST Fords have all kinds of imported base components) make keeping pace very expensive. The profit margin is getting more and more thin. (I am in the high tech manufacturing sector for reference)

Looking purely from business and fiscal perspective while leaving feelings, emotions, and speculative opinions out of the question - ROI / profit and loss metrics make it clear that to keep that product viable and above water you need to shift your business strategy quickly.

Ford seems to be working hard to break free of that demographic target group by competing for different demographics - i.e. chasing the lower end specialty sports car market with going after Porsche, Corvette, BMW etc. If they can't keep profitability for the line as they have been ordered by the CEO, it becomes a hard conversation at board meetings and shareholder conferences to justify.



TLDR Narrowed down, the goal post has moved for the sports car market and Ford has had to react and try to meet the demand and cost changes in the real world.

It's more of an income or asset owning thing, which can be regional to an extent. Those with high incomes or a lot of assets are doing great. Everyone else is doing worse. Hence the K-shaped economy term.

Value isn't there for anything beyond a base GT or base Ecoboost, each with 10K discount, in my opinion. I wouldn't pay full MSRP for these cars.

Once the price builds up, I'd much rather spring for a base C8. Especially with that new 6.7L engine
