I live in the AZ desert and plan to install a Whipple. I don’t plan on racing it competitively but our summers do get hot! Is the HD HE necessary for street use?

If you get the kit that still upholds your warranty, it comes with an additional intercooler and radiator..at least the Roush Phase 2 that I got put in during the first week of August here in Phoenix did. I didn't have a single temperature warning pop up. So I'm hoping I'm good!

The Roush kit comes with a new radiator? What is it like compared to the stock radiator?

No, an ADDITIONAL radiator, it's called the "high temp radiator" and goes in near the main radiator. It's just for cooling the oil, I believe. I'm not a car and motor expert though, so I might be wrong about what it does.

Oh, okay. That makes perfect sense, an oil cooler, which is a radiator. Thanks for the follow up.

You bet, Here's what the kit says it has, from online... so maybe that "high temp radiator" is the intercooler mentioned? I dunno.

Dual front inlet for enhanced airflow
- Inverted design with dual intercoolers
- Utilizes Roush Diagnostic Tuning Software for calibration and diagnostics
- Maintains peak efficiency and minimizes cooling system restriction
- High-flow dual cone injectors with optimized director plates
- Custom billet fuel rails offer consistent fuel delivery
- Custom Front-End Accessory Drive (FEAD) reduces crankshaft load
- Degas bottle eliminates coolant aeration for improved cooling
- Reuses stock dual 80mm throttle bodies
- Plug-and-play Bosch PCE intercooler pump

It's not an oil cooler, It's the Intercooler [ Roush calls it the Low Temp Radiator ] also called Front Mounted Intercooler FMIC.

Water is routed thru it to pull the heat out of the supercharger bricks.

Ah! Thank you! I kept getting confused when things switch between calling it "radiator" and intercooler. This makes sense. Bottom line, no problem here in Phoenix with over an hour per trip during 116-118 degree heat on the freeway, including lots of stop and go. A/C blasting the whole time. Temp gauge never moved.

The intercooler is actually inside the supercharger on a positive displacement supercharger like the Whipple or Roush.

The heat exchanger (Roush calls it a low temp radiator, because the coolant never gets as hot as engine coolant) is the radiator-looking piece that goes on the front of the car.

Coolant gets pumped through the intercooler in the supercharger, into the heat exchanger where it is cooled off and then returned to the supercharger.

A front mount intercooler is the piece in the front of the car that the air from a centrifugal supercharger or turbo charger goes to cool off before entering the throttle body.

I would not only get the big heat exchanger but I would also get an aftermarket radiator as well.

If you wanna get technical about it, Since the PD blowers are single stage compressors, The correct term is called Aftercooling ...

Intercooling
is when you cool the air charge between multiple compression stages, and the last stage is still called Aftercooling.

None of the vendors we are talking about call it an aftercooler.
