They passed a law here in Georgia in 2014 that says you are violating the law if you know or should know that somebody is trying to overtake you and remain in the left lane and not immediately move to the right. There is an exception for when traffic does not allow, as it would be kind of silly to enforce a law like that during bumper to bumper stop and go traffic.

Actually, that was the law since forever, but it used to have a speed limit in it. What the legislature did was remove the speed reference. So now, if the speed limit is 70 mph, and you are driving 75, you can still be ticketed for not moving over.

The State Patrol was out enforcing it for several months. I think now they basically ignore it, however. Too bad.

I remember folks posting online things like "I got a ticket for not speeding enough!" They just did not get it.

"Upon roads, streets, or highways with two or more lanes allowing for movement in the same direction, no person shall continue to operate a motor vehicle in the passing lane once such person knows or should reasonably know that he or she is being overtaken in such lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed. For purposes of this Code section, "passing lane" means the most left-hand lane other than a high occupancy vehicle lane."
