Fall Mountain Trip to Smoky Mountains

Earlier this week my dad and I took a trip to the Smoky Mountains to drive our cars.

Day 1 Route: Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner 28 from Tail of the Dragon to Franklin, NC, Wayah Rd, and finished on Cherohala Skyway.
Lunch: Tapoco Lodge
Dinner: Blackhorse Brewery in Alcoa, TN

Day 2 Route: Foothills Parkway, Little River Gorge Rd, Newfound Gap Rd, Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee, NC to Asheville, NC.
Late lunch: Nachos and Beer in Asheville.

We wanted to stay longer, but sadly had to return home. We’re already looking forward to our next trip. If you guys know the area, please recommend more driving roads and restaurants to check out

I know the area like the back of my hand. You hit some great drives.

Stay OFF the Foothills Parkway. There have been lawsuits (and they are federal) due to Park Rangers harrassing and throwing false tickets at people on that stretch of the park. I was just one of the people involved in costing a Smoky Mtn. Natl. Park Ranger his job. It was very fun and I'm not kidding. His asshat deserved it.

Nice routes! As far as other roads in the area, I recommend the Copperhead Loop (US 276 and NC 215 near Brevard, NC). Also, The Snake (US 421 between Bristol, TN and Mountain City, TN.) They're further away from TotD and Cherohala Skyway but perhaps you could hit them on the way, depending on where you're coming from.

Oops, forgot to mention a third one. It's called Diamondback. North Carolina highway 226A near Little Switzerland, NC, which is a cool little town to visit.
