If you look at the specs for Mustangs with and without the Enhanced Security Package, you’ll see that the upgraded system includes a better alarm with sensors inside the cabin. These are meant to detect movement if someone tries to reach into the car—like if you leave your windows cracked and someone tries to grab something. In that case, the alarm should go off.
From what I understand, these sensors are located in the dome light assembly. I looked at my Mustang (which doesn’t have the package) and compared it with one that does, and the dome assemblies actually look the same.
Sure, you don’t get the lockable center console without the package, but I’m wondering if there might be a way to enable the enhanced security features anyway. Ford is slowly rolling out a new subscription service called “Ford Secure.” According to the description, if you pay monthly you can get an enhanced perimeter alarm, and it specifically mentions motion detection.
I’ll include a picture below of what I’m talking about.
They haven’t rolled it out to the Mustang yet—first it was trucks, then the Expedition—but every week I see more vehicles being added to the list that can enroll. So maybe it’s coming to Mustangs soon?
Since my dome light looks the same as the one in cars with the security package, I’m wondering if the sensors might already be there but just disabled.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to enable them through FORScan? The as-built configuration reader doesn’t seem to mention anything about interior motion sensors, so I’m guessing it would require tweaking something deeper in the as-built data.
