Dark Horse New Discs & Pads @ 5,400 miles

My Dark Horse has been in today to have new front discs and pads fitted under warranty. I've been experiencing steering wheel vibration on moderate to heavy braking since March. I've only been driving the car occasionally during Summer so only just got around to getting it looked at and fixed.

I'm assuming that as it was covered under warranty, it is not something that I have caused - brakes were run-in on an initial 250 mile trip back from the dealer in Surrey, and I'm not heavy on the brakes under normal circumstances.

Anyone else had similar issues?

I have had my 2024 DH since Sept 24 have 11,000 km on the vehicle so far. Brakes are barely worn according to my 3rd oil change car fitness report card. Rear tires... Well that's a different story.

I've got over 14000 kms on my 2024, no issues with brakes, they look barely used.

Depends on the cause but brakes are usually a wear and tear item and excluded from warranty. i seem to recall at point of purchase ford offering a warranty upsell that included wear and tear for ~£500, but it only included brakes, clutch, wiper blades and exhaust.

Unless they find a stuck / sticky calliper or a software bug that leaves them on (i do find the brake hold can cause them to drag for a while after) then it is likely at some point you warped them.

Warps rarely fix themselves and are more likely to get worse than better.

Hitting a deep puddle with hot brakes is usually a good way to knacker them

Normally brakes should not have to be replaced at 5k Miles. Vibration under heavy braking is often pad buildup, a stuck caliper or the rotors. Excessive heat is a common cause. The first thing I would have checked for is pad buildup. Then ensure the calipers are functioning properly, and then look at the rotors. Warping isn't very common especially on vehicles which aren't tracked. Dark horse rotors are high quality and two piece. Warping if applicable here could be caused by over torquing the lugs or extreme heat. You always replace your pads when you put on new rotors. What did the dealer give as the reason for warranty? You left that out.

Do you drive with both feet? I see a lot of people who think they're pilots and they end up dragging their brakes. I've been driving big brakes in my daily for 11 years. Brakes on the Dark Horse are great! It would be helpful to know what the dealer gave us the reason for warranty.

What did the dealer give as the reason for warranty? You left that out.

Unfortunately I turned up just as they'd completed the work and the report from the workshop hadn't come through. I might give them a ring to find out the exact cause. I was just pleased that it wasn't costing me anything. With my limited mechanical knowledge I had assumed warping, but I can see now that there can be a number of causes. There was very little wear on the old discs.

And no, I don't drive with both feet - I'm 55 and most trips are to the supermarket!

I don't know about the UK but here in the states you don't leave a dealer, shop or repair facility without paperwork outlining the work performed in hand.
