The theory of intake length tuning is sound. Some bikes have variable length intake tubes in the airbox.
But I doubt spacers are that sophisticated.
The part it changes doesnt affect that

@Frogdog1 ..... if your intake is reading close to ambient temperature that is very good! The snorkels that lead from each air box to the front of the grille bring in the coolest air possible - air that is hitting the grille as you drive. The alternative used to be air that entered the engine air intake came from inside the engine "cavity" and was a lot hotter than the ambient air! Ford has a great idea with the snorkels that channel air in from the front grille.
Agree 100%. I live in the south and just got back from a 900 mile round trip of mountain two lanes, interstate, urban, you name it and my intake temp. stayed very close to ambient. Ambient was hot too. That is the reason I won't be putting a CAI on my Mustang. I think they're hocus pokus on a s650 because of what we both have stated.

And, as you know, more air in (cold air is denser air) should mean more air out. So, do people ask themselves how it gets out when they spend a lot for a CAI? I doubt it.

Sport bike engine, engineering is quite amazing and different in many ways. Intake runners definitely do play a role in these vehicles. I used to have five in my garage at one time before I exited the fun.

I think it does. Intake tuning involves everything from the air inlet to the valves.
It doesn't. Once your throttle is wide open your "intake" extends all the way to the air filter

either way it's not wheee the runners or fuel or so it doesn't matter. It's not a car spacer.

On a bike, the intakes can extend or shorten depending on what's going on and the throttle inputs from the rider. It boils down to intake velocity which can affect engine torque and HP output.

Mustangs aren't bikes
True, but Lou's statement of the higher level concept are right. This is a "go nowhere" conversation part of the thread so let's let it end.

OK, we're talking at cross purposes, that's what I meant, but to the air inlet. The airbox is part of a tuned intake system.
