Barely 1,300 miles and already got a chip on the passenger side, a four-point star about 1/4" across and a chunk out of the center. Don't know how, but I've managed to go more than a decade without getting one like this on my other cars. Tiny little pits yes, but not a star. I've never tried one of those chip repairs before. And the Mustang appears to have a lot of electronics associated with the windshield which is a new phenomenon to me too. Should I get the chip repaired and hope it doesn't spread or go ahead and get a new windshield?

Get the chip fixed asap. If it just happened, put a piece of clear tape over it and keep it there until the chip is fixed. It'll keep dirt out of it and helpfully a better result.

I got a chip, had it repaired, but you can plainly see it inside and out. Thinking about having it redone or getting a new windshield because it's right in my line of sight and it's driving me crazy

As mentioned above get it fixed ASAP as it will spread like herpes at a hookers convention

Try the glue method first, if it is not clear then you can replace the glass

I am really trying to avoid breaking the factory urethane seal on glass, the installer always manages to pit a little chip in the paint that 5 years from now turns into a water leak and rot repair.

And yes the forward camera had to be re calibrated with specific fixtures to make sure everything works right.

That fĂșcking sucks. My Raptor got nailed on the South Padre Island causeway bridge by a pretty sizable rock kicked up from a vehicle in front of us, putting a foot long crack in the driver’s side.

Despite 2 previous disappointments, I went to a safelite. what a charlie foxtrot that was.
I dropped off in the morning, to be done by ~ 3PM - not even in the shop when I got there. I had a 5 PM engagement. Eventually they get to me, come out and tell me:

“you’ll have to leave your truck here overnight, we got the windshield replaced but we can’t calibrate the lane keeping system”.

This was not received well.
After some back and forth, I made it clear I was leaving here with the truck and if anyone tried to stop me, I would still be leaving with the truck. They began rationalizing ‘it’s dangerous, company policy’ - I pointed out, it’s a 2017, and an _optional_ feature on my truck that can be disabled by the menu.

by now, it’s probably 4:45 and they lastly protest - we fixed out lane keeping calibration machine, 10 minutes tops.

12 minutes later they finally relent. I leave with the truck.

If you need to get a windshield, don’t let that happen to you.

I’m sorry this happened to you. I’ve taken more rocks to windshields than I can count. đŸ€Šâ€â™‚ïž Once I took a large rock right in my field of view on a new Tundra as I drove it home right off the lot
. Get a reputable glass shop to fill it -if you’re not happy with it use a reputable body shop to replace the windshield. (I’m not a fan of Safelite) Good luck-it’s frustrating but it happens

I had the windshield on my 24 Mustang replaced a few months ago. I went to adjust the rear view mirror and it broke off taking the mount and a chunk of glass with it. Obviously a factory defect. Ford refused to cover it claiming I ripped it off myself by pulling too hard on it. Anyway, insurance covered it. The new windshield comes with the black plastic box where the camera and rain sensor are located. They just needed to move the original ones to the new windshield and calibrate the camera. All is fine.

I refuse to use Safelite as they did an awful job on my 03 Mustang. They mashed the locking pins on my 2 A-Pillers. Never again.

I called a couple of high end car dealers in the area and asked them who they use as many farm out glass work. The same company name, a mom and pop place that has been in business for like 30 years, kept coming up so I used them. Car was done in about 5 hours and it's a perfect job. Best of luck.

Chip repair is NOT intended to make the chip no longer visible. It's 100% intended to stop the damage from spreading.

While some chips CAN be filled and appear almost not there, not all can. Most can't. Anyone who told you that the purpose was to make it invisible was/is wrong.

I told myself that, because I'm a positive thinker. I fucked myself...

LOL. I hear ya. I remember the first time I had one filled and it DIDN'T make it look invisible. Then the tech educated me about chip repair.

I have jeeps so i know chips. Do the self repair kit. Super easy and works great. Did my jeep and DIL hyudai sonata. The chips were nearly invisible. If you did not know they were they youbwould have a hard time finding them. I will look for my write up on the wrangler forum

Yes! Have that being delivered this afternoon. Will make an attempt myself as I can still feel the chip with my fingernail and it's still a pit in the window. :please:

I took it back to the window guy and said it is what it is. Positive thinker me thinks there "is" a little more than can be done, haha

No reason to do the repair yourself unless your insurance doesn't cover chip repair at zero cost.

Call Safelite and let them do it. In fact, they're coming out to my work Monday to fill a small chip on my F150.

My only recommendation, when you are filling the tube, go slow and have someone inside making sure it fills up the area. You will see what i mean
