Black coating Dark Horse exhaust tips

Have a 25 DH with the matte black coating on the exhaust tips (real stupid on Fords part) anyway the coating is looking shabby - does anyone know what the coating is - and how to fix goof up spots on the coating ...?

Are the tips chrome and then painted …? (Stupid)

As in - take off all the paint then polish the tips …?

They are definitely painted but don't appear to be chrome underneath. More like a magnesium color under the black paint. The bare metal is also not shiny or smooth like chrome would be.

I don't think you'd be able to take off the paint and polish the tips chrome without significant work.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the DH comes with 5" Tips and the GT's have 4" Tips. Double check that though .....

the DH also has a slightly different way the tips are mounted, similar to how the S550 GT500 and Mach 1 were. putting on tips for a GT will have it conflict with the diffuser

The black tips suck. I don’t know what Ford was thinking. Chrome/polished tips have served us well since 1982.

No problem with black tips - Make them Black Chrome or Powder coated -

MATTE PAINTED TIPS FROM WHAT LOOKS LIKE IT CAME FROM A F'ING RATTLE CAN IS BS on a $78K car no less - come on man ...!!!

Not only that but get any kind of chemical on them - or some other cleaning substance by accident - and you better invest in Rust-oleum Ceramic High Heat paint cause you gonna need it ... Paint today, paint next week, paint in a month, on and on and on ...

The paint wipes off with brake cleaner. The tips are stainless under the paint and are easy to polish. I did just the inner rings and painted the outer black again with VHT.
