I also find it annoying but I discovered that if you press the voice assistant button on the right side of the steering wheel and then say "FM 95.1" it will change to that.
If you press and immediately release the voice button, you're talking to the Sync system - so you have to use the commands the car understands.

However, if you press AND HOLD the voice button (wait for the bonk), your now talking to Siri/Google Assistant on your phone (assuming you are connected via CarPlay or AA) - so you have to use commands that Siri/Google Assistant understand.

Example Ford Assistant commands:
SET TEMPERATURE TO 72
LISTEN TO FM 95.1
LISTEN TO PATRIOT RADIO ON SIRUSXM
(there are other Ford Assistant commands, but I rarely use them).

Example Google Assistant commands:
I NEED DIRECTIONS TO 123 OAK ST in DETROIT or I NEED DIRECTIONS TO HOME DEPOT IN LIVONIA (sends to Google Maps or Waze)
DRIVE HOME (assuming you have a 'home' set in your map program)
SEND A TEXT MESSAGE TO VERONICA JONES ON MOBILE (looks up mobile number for Veronica Jones on your phone)
WHAT'S THE SQUARE ROOT OF 144? (Answers 12)
WHO WAS THE 16th PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES? (Answers Abraham Lincoln)
WHAT IS THE CAPITAL OF FLORIDA? (Answers Tallahassee)

For Google Assistant or Siri, anything you could ask your phone is fine, as it's the phone, not the car answering/doing the chore.

It sounds like this issue is occurring because CarPlay is overriding the SYNC system when your iPhone pairs, correct? If that's true, do this while CarPlay is running.

Home Button --> Settings --> Phone List --> Tap the phone, media, or CarPlay button next to your phone's name

Following the above steps should result in the CarPlay icon un-highlighting itself, and the Phone and Media icons highlighting themselves. Note that from this point forward, CarPlay will no longer automatically turn itself on when you turn on the car. It will default to whatever your last media source was.

If you ever want to turn CarPlay on again, follow the above steps, except this time tap on CarPlay so it's highlighted again. CarPlay will load, but it will also load every time you enter the vehicle once again.
I don't recall it working this way for me (AA). Even if disabled under the phone when I get out, it always connects full AA when I get back in. I'll have to give it another shot (although I would never leave it disabled, as I always run AA).

It would be nice if the documentation that didnā€˜t come in the form of an owners manual in the glove box, explained some of this. I’m still looking for the source icon shown in the pdf owners manual. Like you would expect it to be on the Home Screen, and set to the last source used. That would certainly solve this issue.
Everybody expects everything to be the way THEY want it and can't understand why the way THEY want it isn't the default for everybody else.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said something along the lines of "Like you would expect it to be on the Home screen", I would have a lot of nickels. No, I don't expect (audio) SOURCE to be on the home screen. I expect it to be on the AUDIO screen. They can't put EVERY button on the home screen.

When your on the home screen, the upper right box is for your audio. Tap it, then the audio goes full screen. You'll find the SOURCE button on there.

Id prefer not to turn CarPlay off but to have Siriusxm going instead when I turn on the car if I had it on last. I’m being too picky lol
I have AA set to automatically start. But that doesn't control my audio source. AA just loads my map and stuff. For audio, m SirusXM comes on (the car app, not the phone app).

If you're starting up, CarPlay attaches to your phone, and then music from your phone starts playing, what phone app is playing the music? Pandora? Spotify? I log out of those apps on my phone - that way, the car CAN'T start playing music from them.

Thanks, found it. Also was able to lock in some presets. It looks like the number of presets is limited to about 6. Seems like a low number to me. My Lincoln has a bunch of presets for each source.

It's been awhile, but there is 30 presets. I think you have to open the SiriusXM module and scroll down to increase the number.

I believe you're right - you should be able to increase/decrease the number of presets from within the Sync menu.

However, you should be able to scroll through all of the presets, not just pick from the six being shown on the screen at any given time. Tap/Hold/Swipe (left or right) should reveal the next bank of presets.
