Anyone drive all winter?

Rear wheel drive V8s are no problem in the snow. I grew up in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. As a kid, barely any of us had four wheel peel. Just have to have good tires and know how to feather the gas.

And now with every car coming with traction control it's even easier.

Yes, all my cars, to include the numerous Mustangs I've owned (GT500s, GT350, GTs, Super Snake, DHs), were all all-season, all-weather fighters. Never been in an accident (Summer or Winter)...but I drive very reasonably in Winter. My worry is usually the untrained in compacts and those overcome by inordinate hubris in their 4X4s. I've almost been taken out on a few occasions by that sort.

Raised in New England, CT, MA, and VT. Now live in CO (where I bought my first GT500 years ago and lived roughly 1k Ft above the Springs at the time. The end of my 25x2 mile daily commute was all uphill and never had a problem. I-25 was actually more dangerous than the getting up my house.).

You have to be practiced to drive in the snow--and you need good situational awareness as there are certain conditions that are just stupid to go out in.

I'm now back in my 2nd DH (handling pack w/SC) that, with a set of Steeda's Trident wheels I expect to pick up toward the Fall, will once again be my winter steed.

Yes! Situational awareness!! Just assume every idiot within a five-mile radius is going to screw up. Driving to work one night, in a snowstorm on the FDR (downtown Manhattan for those not familiar), I see a jackass do a tiny fishtail and immediately backed off and slowed down because I knew what was coming. Sure enough, he overcorrects and starts bouncing off concrete barriers from one side to the next, multiple times. I just picked my way through all the car parts and arrived at work on time. He was fine, except for his bruised ego. Glenn

Me too. One problem I foresee is that it’s the convertible, and I can’t really take that through automated car washes, can I? And since I am in Ottawa, handwashing in the winter isn’t gonna really work is it?

As I said earlier, I drive all winter and get it washed regularly. Two things! I have a garage, so my car dries fairly quickly, even in the winter, and secondly, the carwash is by hand, and I never let them put soap on the top, summer or winter. I never wash my car myself and I'm damn sure not doing it in winter. Glenn

I work in a shopping mall and there is a manual car wash downstairs in the underground parking lot. Unfortunately, there’s a Walmart coming and the underground parking lot is going to close for a year… I’ll have to look for another one. Definitely on my list now!

I would definitely avoid soap on the top. Mine looks like new and all I use is either a feather duster, or lint rollers on it. Good luck on your garage search! Glenn

I lived in IL for quite a while and owned sports cars year round. I moved to mid-MI and have been driving "sensible" cars up until about 2 weeks ago. Picked up the Dark Horse from a dealership right down the road from Dearborn, so that was cool. I will be driving it year round, so I'm planning on: set of Winter wheels and tires, getting it washed often (with one of those unlimited plans that seem to be popular) during the cold months, and maybe applying some of that Krown product on the underbody once a year. Only problem I'm having is finding wheels that fit the 2026 DH with the handling package; AI has not been good at recommending anything.

This sounds like the most I can do to keep the car in good shape, right? I like driving the car.......I want to enjoy it all year!

So on the forums here there are a few posts about different HP tires and there are at least one more option available in the HP package sizes than last year. Goodyear makes a pretty good all season in our size and the poster likes them.

My first love, back in the day, were Goodyear Eagles. I put them on all my cars. I had a 60-70 minute, one-way commute, on a good day. In 38 years, I never once had a situation I couldn't deal with. Not sure they even make them anymore and have no idea how they would work on a S650! Glenn

I have the Conti's and can't complain, but I wouldn't say no to a set of Eagles. Although, I haven't checked the specs on them for many moons. Glenn

Well, maybe I don't like them quite as much as I thought. At least the price! Those Eagle F1's are $150.00 more per tire, than my Conti's! Ouch! Glenn

I had the conti pro contact on my 2024 GT premium convertible - but to be clear - what Ford put on my 2026 GT premium convertible were Goodyear Eagle AS, which are not as expensive as F1s. That said I liked the Contis but I like the Goodyear AS better and I like the F1s even better than the AS. Goodyear was running ads during a recent WNBA game but - shame on them - they were on a Corvette not a Mustang.

Good to know! I don't know, at 3,500K per year if my Conti's or I will wear out first. If I do need new tires I will definitely checkout the Eagles. Thanks, Glenn

This is my second Mustang, first one being a 2007 GT. And both times it was my only car. I lived in New York City and parked on the street. It doesn't snow all the time and maybe every couple of years the roads are impassable. The biggest issue is driving up the hill, it simply can't get going without spinning out sometimes. One time somebody was kind enough to give me a push. One time I even got snow chains put on it, but it was the last resort as I could not climb up a hill at all and needed to go skiing of all things.....

What helps is having all sorts of heavy junk in the your trunk. For example, if you are a cat owner, you can buy 12 boxes of cat litter (which you will use later anyway) and keep it in the trunk. Works like a charm.

So is driving a Mustang impossible during winter? No, it's not impossible, just a regular rear-wheel car. Nothing out of the ordinary, it's been done for many many years, as most cars used to be rear-wheel drive back in the day. If you keep ballast in the trunk and have all-season tires, you will be fine.

I never had any rust issues, and my old Mustang was 17 years old. You need to rust-proof it, if you can (I didn't). And you need to take it to a car wash when the snow melts, to get all the salt off of your car.
