Ask for a window sticker.

The exact car I've ordered showed up a nearby dealer, so I figured I'd just go buy it and cancel my order. Called them up, asked to make sure it had nite pony, was white, active exhaust, and a manual transmission, they said yep that's the car!

Drive an hour (there and back) to go to what I assume is buy a car, get there, its a fucking automatic. Despite both the dealer listing and dealer saying it's a manual it was not. Time and hopes wasted. Everything else was spot on which I was amazed at because of the nite pony constraints that have still prevented my vehicle from even being scheduled.

Yeah that happens.
Dealers bank that if you’re actually there in person and serious…. You’ll compromise and buy the car.

Probably the sales person was a kid who never drove a manual and missed the word manual. He thought what a strange question, all cars come with transmissions.

Of course. Ain’t seen one yet that you don’t have to manually put in drive…sheesh what’s he thinking…. Hey boss got another one … he’s asking about transmissions.

I have come to the realization that new car salesman don't know much about the product they're selling. 2+ years ago, while waiting for my Bronco order to come in, another dealership was showing they had one on the lot. I called them and asked them repeatedly, "this is full size Bronco and not the Sport?". He assured me it was the new full size Bronco. Drive 30 minutes to the dealership.....and it's a Bronco Sport! They are truly clueless.

I did a lot of product support so I am an expert at finding a few facts in a sea of mud.

I had this same shit happen to me in a Gladiator, at three dealerships! Finally got so mad I wouldn’t get off the phone until the sales guy walked out with me still on the phone and checked it. Crazy!

Oh, I never thought of it being a tactic like that. That’s some crap.

Most dealers show the "see sticker price" on line, for each vehicle.

With the exception of a few enthusiast dealers and salespeople, this ^ + 1.

I always ask for them to email the window sticker. If it's in the dealers inventory (which, if its for sale, it will be) you can also pull it up on the Ford Inventory website. Sales people will say anything to get you into the dealership where they believe they'll be able to control the conversation.

I used to hate the guy that was probably our best sales man. He would talk with the customer and when the customer started talking about the specifications and abilities of the unit, the call would get passed to me. I would end up selling the unit but he would get the commission.
Of corse what was worst was he would sell the unit and something he said was there wasn't. I would end up trying to provide it with minimal time and disrupting what I should have been working on.
What really bothered me was he never seemed to know any more than what he knew when he first took the job.
