Intrepid user tried setting this to “not present” and reported AC was not automatically cycling on and off at all times ( which I may have whined about a time or two)

Manually activating A/C still works of course.

Why would you not want the AC to cycle on automatically?

In my car it goes from comfortable to frigid in about 10 seconds. I can roll down the windows and head out for a drive. A few minutes later the sensor will detect too much humidity and cycle the A/C on. Ok, no big deal right?

In the summer, I have to set the a/c to 76 or 77 F. In cooler months - not that there are too many of them, even higher for when the AC kicks in.

Not exaggerating here - When I drove her home from just east of Waco last year it was 104F ambient. I started out with a/c set on 72, it lasted... maybe 10 minutes and I was like ‘damn, it’s cold in here’. I ended up at 77 on the climate settings. I’ve never had a vehicle with a/c this cold.
- yes, I fully acknowledge, #FirstWorldProblems

Annoying af, we were discussing this in another thread. In my case the damn thing is deactivating the re-circulation every 30 seconds and keeping the air and the smell from the outside (my S550 never did this). It's particularly bad when driving in traffic or in a polluted area or when in example there's a fire smoke around, the inside will quickly fill of this smell.
I hope the solution posted by the op will finally work (without other/unrelated consequences).

I never even considered the recirc! Where I live we have been under drought restrictions for 6 months. I have a pile of brush that is almost as big as my house like many others around me. So last week the drought and burn restrictions were lifted and there were small fires all over and I thought it was odd that I was smelling smoke so prominently with the windows up.

<duh!>

I'm fighting with it since I bought the car. Apart the traffic and smog, around where I live there's many fields and controlled burns, and I need to drive in those areas constantly clicking on the screen to re-activating the recycle, otherwise i get intoxicated (it's an exaggeration as the air inside is somewhere filtered, but it really hurts). It's pathetic. :)
