2026 GT Convertible Story

Love it! I traded my 2017 Carrera for this Mustang, there was change, because I wanted, needed, required a convertible! Having once owned a Lava Red 2012 Mustang Convertible, V6 manual, I wanted another one with a V8 manual. And I have it and I love it more than the 911, way more fun.
I was happy to be accepted into this forum, thank you, after getting caught up in a discussion on the proper oil level for the car. A few weeks ago, with 5000 or so km, I called my dealer asking why the oil level was around the first hole on the dispstick. Normal, new engine bla bla bla. Bring it in and we will change the oil while we check other things. Their receipt shows 9 liters. All good.
I left without checking until 1000 km, mostly highway, later only to find the level at hole #1.
Upset.
No one was answering in the service dept and I left a detailed message on their machine which promised a quick reply. I am still waiting after several days.
There is an adventure here, how much oil has to go in? 9 liters or 9.5? 10 quarts…US or Imperial? Not the same! Which one converts to 9.5 liters which fora consensus accepts as the proper quantity (US quart).
I just gave up with the calculations and conversions after consulting Ford Canada, US, UK and France sites. No wonder international discussions go haywire! So I bought a liter of synthethic Castrol as per the required recipe and added less than half of it. I have yet to check where it's at but at least I have a poper baseline for the next few hundred KM.

You have to remember oil changes volume as it gets hot or cold.

Check it after it reaches operating temp and get back to us.

If you ever have owned a Harley Davidson (if you own a Ford and a Harley you really need to seek help) you'll see the dipstick has different markings for hot and cold, and a HD has a lut less oil in it than our 5.0

Most manufacturers consider burning a quart every 1500 miles "normal", I dont

@JPSpinz ..... I have owned 5 Mustangs. NONE of them consumed ANY oil that I could see at ANY point on their mileage. The 2014 I sold to my best friend, in 2024, still doesn't consume ANY oil at all. BTW neither of us baby them as they are, after all Mustangs which are after all designed to be driven - just not abused. The last two I had were/are a 2024 GT premium convertible which I traded-in on a 2026 GT premium convertible. It had about 7,000 miles on it. It did not use any oil that I could detect. I now have a 2026 GT premium convertible. I changed the oil at 1,000 miles - no oil usage. Checked the level yesterday at 4,000 miles - no usage. There should be NO usage unless there is a problem or you are beating the $hit out of it. HOWEVER....I always check the oil level (hot as a previous poster noted) AND after letting it drain down for about 10 minutes with the dipstick out. Many times with my Mustangs I have had to add some oil after an oil change at a dealership. Same with my wife's GM product. Why you ask? I assume because most dealers do not have enough shop time to run the vehicles up to operating temperature, let the oil drain into the pan, check it and add more - so - they consciously choose to underfill a bit because they expect it to expand at operating temperature AND underfilling (a bit) is a lot better than overfilling. The most I have ever had to add was about a 1/2 quart which TBH pi$$ed me off a bit. Check your oil hot, after draining down, with the dip stick out and add as required then repeat and check after (in your case) 1,000 Km. I'm willing to bet there is no oil consumption. If it goes down any measurable amount (unlikely) I'd be into the Ford dealership for a written acknowledgement so fast!!!!! Also IMO only use FULL synthetic and I would only use Ford oil - your case 5W-30 FULL synthetic.

I normally check my oil after I get the oil change. Most of the shops don’t let the engine run and recheck the oil level. They just add oil then send you on your way. I worked on fighter jets and cars. I have always had to run the engine for 5 or so minutes after every oil change and check the oil level. With everything becoming more expensive, I believe the shops think they are saving money by not topping up the oil. Bottom line, trust but verify after every oil change. Hope this helps.

This is my second Mustang. EcoBoost, not GT, but I never had to add oil to either. 2018 had 100,000 miles when I got rid of it to buy the 2024, which now has 21,000 miles on it.
