I'm with you. I had a Mercedes a number of years ago and the recommended oil change was 10,000 miles if my memory serves me correct. It didn't have a dipstick either, which drove me nuts.

The 26th Marines were at the Siege of Khe Sanh. Fortunately, I arrived in country about 2 weeks after they left there. I managed to make it nearly 5 months before being wounded in September of '68. 🙃

I'll do mine at the 1,000 mile mark. I'm with you. 3,000 miles after that. Frequent oil changes are cheap insurance to me. I know I'm old fashioned, but 5,000 seems a bit too much for a high performance motor.
