You can premanently wire in a connection that you plug the maintainer into, either under the hood, or somewhere where you can easily get at it. I had one under my bike seat. On cars I don't bother, just attach the aligator clips. The Mustang is even easier with the aux battery connections.

I've never bothered with that, or disconnecting the battery. A good battery maintainer is a better option. And it keeps all the necessary bits going.

Why are you steering with one hand on the shifter? You shouldn't need to change gear until past the corner exit if you enter the turn in the right gear.

I know you can jump start modern cars succesfully, but I try to avoid it given all the electronics that have palpitations if you give them .5 volts too much. I prefer to put them on charge if possible.
