It's a "pick two" situation: comfort, handling, cost. If you option MagneRide dampers, you gain better handling and comfort. No tradeoff other than to your wallet. Same for performance tires like Michelin Pilot Sport 4S: they're quiet, comfortable, and have incredible traction.
I don't think it's a set price point alone. A Porsche dealer doesn't want a lime-green interior Cayman on their lot, even though you can order it through the configurator. A Mustang dealer doesn't want a GT with weird cosmetic options (red with black stripes, orange interior, bronze appearance...
Unless your spec is more expensive than a Dark Horse, you haven't built a "unicorn".
Even if you option a trio of enthusiast packages (e.g. GT Performance Package, MagneRide, and Active Valve Exhaust) you're building a ~$56k GT Premium; that shouldn't require a deposit.
The Ecoboost has great MPG, gaps a Prius, and looks good. If you're after a competent daily that can hang on a weekend joyride, option it with MagneRide (requires 200A / 201A trim and 2.3L Performance Package). Get a convertible if you live in Florida, and you've got a fun car.
I'm glad you voted with your wallet. The dealership I went to placed my order, exactly as I wanted, they didn't ask for a deposit, they had the priority allocation available, and now the first week that scheduling was available, it got scheduled. It has been painless; I keep waiting for the...
That's kind of the business model of a car dealership, isn't it? At least my local dealership, the salesperson I've been working with is always out giving test drives. They were coming back from taking someone who couldn't have been older than 20 for a drive in a GT on the day I placed my order...
Congrats!
I just reached out to Ford chat and found out I'm scheduled for 7/29. They got my order on 4/30 from the dealer and my VIN got generated on 5/16 yesterday (presumably - or Monday?)

It took a week or two to get my "we've received your order" email. I placed my order with the dealership mid-April and got my first email from Ford on May 1st.
Sorry, to clarify, 400A and 401A have the same power seats other than trim color.
Passenger seats only get height adjustment on the 400A and 401A, they don't on the 300A and 301A. The biggest jump is going to the "Premium" (400A) over the 300A/301A because it adds the power-adjustment for the...
The 401A has additional two-tone trim on the sides of the bolsters and seat.
The biggest jump is from the 300A / 301A, as on base-models the passenger seats lack height adjustment.
I agree.
My only question is if we'll get a hybrid V8 (like the e-Ray) in the future. Ford already has smaller hybrid setups (Maverick, Police Interceptor Vehicle, Escape) that preview that potential, and it would let them build a monster V8 that flew threw emissions, even in the 2030s.
That's gorgeous! I did the Grabber Blue paint with the Emberglo interior (200A) on my Ecoboost Convertible order, along with MagneRide (plus the required 2.3L Performance Package).
The only time I wouldn't order the High Premium package is if you want the Emberglo interior (not available in combination). You can still get the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package if you want the adaptive cruise control and the B&O sound system with Emberglo.
For $4520 extra, you get:
19" wheels with Pirelli tires
Leather-trim, climate-controlled seats
Heated steering wheel
Premium interior trim with aluminum pedals
Unified dual-screen dash
I personally think that's worth it.
The Ecoboost puts in work in the Police Interceptor Vehicle. I'm curious if Ford will offer something like the E-Ray powerplant, a hybrid with a V8, in the future.
The 2024 Ecoboost is also a new engine with internal exhaust gas recirculation and a twin-scroll turbocharger adding more potential points-of-failure. That said, I ordered one! I have an S550 Ecoboost with 44k miles, no issues, and the S650 is a new car with a warranty.
Good news! You don't have to worry about any of that until the car is built. The dealer didn't ask me for a penny to place my order with Ford. Bad news, you won't be able to finalize the financial details for a few months.
