Exactly. Any non factory offset figure shifts extra load onto the smaller outer wheel bearing. It's the larger inner bearing that is designed to carry the main wheel loading.

I'm not sure about US availability, but 315/35's will be about 15mm higher sidewall. Not sure what the width of your rims are, but you wouldn't want to go more than one size wider.

The 305's have about 10mm more sidewall. Is that enough?

That should be repairable. Suspension parts and panels are easy. It's just any damage to frame,rails etc gets a bit more complicated. But they have eqipment to pull things straight on a jig. Interestingly, when my MX5 had an inadvertant rear intrusion by a driver who was busy watching a hottie...
