I'm in the microfibre cloth camp. But I save a high quality, super soft cloth just for the screen.
Optical cleaning cloths are also great, but a bit small.
I think single use means the bores are not machinable due to the coating that's used. I may be wrong.

I think you're overlooking oil film strength. One of the big advances in oil technology. It allowed the use of thinner, more fuel efficient oils, and reduces wear on cold starts.
