We do have a rain sensor up there, the coin battery looking thing on the left side. I never figured it out, but I believe it's possible because there are products on Amazon that tap into the rain sensor plug for USB and 12V out.

Sounds like the factory messed it up, like when the S650s were new. They were shipping cars with mismatched driver/passenger seats, and mismatched brakes on either side (an Ecoboost got a performance Brembo on one side only).

You can save a little time and complication by completely omitting the plastic fasteners. Just the 7mm bolts alone are enough to hold the undertray securely.
