OK, interesting. I've only driven the Queensland coast areas and Adelaide/Barossa and didn't notice problems. I wonder if "something" is interfering with GPS
GPS Nav (Waze/Maps) works well down here. But every trip we've done to Italy always has a lot of GPS glitches. It's like it calculates shortest route which also could shorten your lifespan.
Actually, it does deteriorate"just sitting in the engine". Combustion contaminants combine with condensation to form acids in the oil. Especially if the mileage is low and the car does a lot of cold starts.
This is why it's a good idea to change oil before storage
