Do I need to upgrade GT rear brakes for Whipple install

Greetings all,

I’m looking to install a whipple on my 26 GT, do I need to upgrade the rear brakes to brembos? I have it in my plans to upgrade down the line, but is it mandatory to do it before I get the Whipple?

*IF* you anticipate ever having a situation where you are going 130mph and need to slam the brakes to avoid hitting something, and you already have the brembo brakes, yes, I recommend the Hawk Mustang GT PP HPS 5.0 Front Brake Pads and G-Loc Mustang GT PP/Dark Horse 4-Piston Brembo Calipers Rear Brake Pads. Each set is about $200 each. And while you're at it, use Motul brake fluid.

This is what I plan on doing, but only because I'm already replacing the wheels and getting the G-Force outlaw axles, so the car will be up on a lift with the wheels removed anyway, and installing these should add close to zero $ in labor.

Will you be able to slam on the brakes without these upgrades? Yes. But your stock consumables will melt and need replacing.

It's recommended that you change the brake fluid every 3 years anyway, so might as well get the good stuff. If you're buying a $10K supercharger, the cost difference is negligible.

Worry about tires, suspension and supporting mods for the whipple over the brakes. Youll have plenty. If its a must just get better pads if youre that worried for now. Unless youre 1k plus or something crazy youll be ok

The base gt has 4 piston brembos on 13.9 inch rotors you get about 1.2 inches more on the pp cars on 6 piston front brakes. The whole 4 vs 6 piston thing is preference. No dont waste money if anything just get some grabbier pads like powerstops or hawkes if it will make you feel better.

I'm overall happy with my base brakes and that's all I've experienced, but from every single review I've seen, those upgraded 6-piston Brembos are phenomenal.

Thats due to the 15 vs 14 inch rotor not the number of pistons. The 6 vs 4 is easier to spread the pistons out over and fit a target wheel size or weight.
