The way the shop explained to me, the stainless works headers make it easier to swap cats in / out as needed so that's the direction I went. Just in case. So I got the catted S/W headers, but installed the headers with the bypass section.

Could you elaborate a little?

Why is it easier?

This may help a lot of us reading.

The s/w headers with cats are 'modular'. You can swap the cats in/out with a couple supplied pipes, no reciprocating saw required. I understand the Kooks cats are integrated; meaning you cut them out(?) or buy the whole catless section.

The Kooks are the same way, you can buy the 'competition' connection pipes or the catted ones, and just remove the clamps and swap them out

Get rid of that last six inches or so after the clamp where it necks down for the resonator and install a dual inlet 3" muffler in place of the resonator like @Q6543 did.

I genuinely don’t understand why major companies aren’t building mid pipes and cat backs with better resonators, the cars sound like ass without them.

Or they’re just off shore cheap pipe fabs idk.
Should be an easy high quality shelf solution.

I just think it is silly to have a choke point there. Let it flow.

Plus, he said the Jones muffler was actually quieter than the stock resonator, so no worries about dealing with an obnoxiously loud exhaust. More exhaust flow, more power, no added noise, what is not to like?

robvas, what size are those Kooks pipes from the header collector? (both the catted pipe up until that neck down for the resonator, and the competition?)

UPDATE: The competition only connection pipes are 3"

I can't find the spec on the catted version of that pipe, but any of you installing forced induction are going to want to upgrade the catalytic converter from what is offered with Kooks or any other off the shelf header. Step up from 300 cell to 400 cell and a higher horsepower rating with some margin for error on your forced induction beast.

A lot of people think it 'sounds cool'

🤮

I know a big part of it is younger people wanting the car to be as loud as possible.

Yeah, that's all fun and games until you tick off the wrong driver blowing past them or rolling up on any state trooper from any state. Also, every nit wit Honda civic with a Fart can and N2O wants to fight.

Plus, I got a few windows down sound levels over 112db, which is not hearing safe in prolonged exposure. It's brief, but still.

I'm going to check into the 2x 3" inlet muffler and an h/x pipe of some sort.

Check out this thread, especially post # 3 et sequitur.

Video sound clips, and an identification of the muffler.

Also, in this set up, the muffler is the H or X pipe. The exhaust is crossing over there. So it acts as a crossover and a resonator to get rid of that raspy sound and tone everything down a little. Plus, you have no restriction to your exhaust flow from the headers all the way out the back of that dual inlet/outlet 3" muffler.

those videos are before the muffler. I know... that is a very familiar sound :-)
