Hello. Is the oil life meter accurate on these cars? I’ve driven around 200 miles since I changed the oil with Amsoil and it’s already at 85%. I don’t drive it hard either. Thanks in advance!

The oil life meter is, roughly, a calculation based on miles, time, and driving style. It may also be based on temps or other data.

It’s definitely not able to detect quality oil vs garbage oil, or anything in between. I change my Amsoil every 6 months or 5000 miles, whichever comes first, and ignore the oil meter (other than resetting it after the oil change).

The Oil Life Monitor (OLM) cannot determine the brand, type or weight of oil in the engine.

The OLM counts down whether the car is being driven or not.

The minimum standard for the OLM is to alert the driver of an oil change one year or 10K miles / 16K kms after the last one, whichever occurs first.

The OLM relies on both time and operating conditions to determine when to change the oil.

At one extreme, changing the oil and parking the car, the OLM will tick down to 0% at the end of one year.

At the other, a track weekend, the OLM will reach 0% over a few days.

At it's slowest rate, the former example, the OLM will tick down at a rate of 1.92% a week. Time is the only factor in this situation.

At it's fastest rate, the latter, RPM, operating temperature, duration of drive, etc., are a variety of factors used in the math.

Did you reset the OLM? At 1100 miles, ours was at 90% when I gave it its first oil change.
