I use the stud that the red arrow points to in Bfets image for the negative lead of the charger. The positive lead goes on the positive pole of the battery. No problems. However you connect it, after 2 weeks you get a message on the Ford app to say that certain features have been disabled to preserve the battery. That's a fluke, the battery will be full and the car will start as if it ran the previous day. Enjoy your time away!

Is there a spot on the same side as the battery that I can safely use for negative?

Going away for 1 month and using a borrowed tender that doesn't have the reach required to connect to the negative stud near the fuse box.
If you are looking for something even closer than the charging stud, this point that @5.0ALM used should work well.

Excuse the dual posting (also in my own garage thread), but also relevant here.

Day 15 Notification - Is the CTEK Charger still working?

Whilst away overseas recently, the Mustang is being trickle charged with the CTEK MXS 5.0 charger but Adam still gets the Ford Pass app "Remote features disabled to preserve battery" and "Vehicle in battery saver mode" notifications.

What's going on here?
Has the CTEK charger failed whilst away?

No, probably not failed. Our cars still go into the battery saver mode after about two weeks without being started despite the CTEK charger being attached. Nature of the beast, but at least we can rest assured that our battery is charged and not being damaged/weakened by discharging.

Thanks enjoyed the knowledge imparted in your research there , Both the parasitic current draw and how the ctek charger works . I will be buying a charger on black friday now , I get the battery saver mode on my s550 a lot more than it used to , hopefully can get a long tailed lead so i can have connector someone externally accessible so dont need to have bonnet open to connect . Great job and nice production
