The power and weight advantage the ZR1 has really makes the GTD even more impressive… I think people thought it was gonna be some blowout number… not the case at all
Did people really think that? A lot of people were saying it wouldn't break 7 minutes, and that's why they hadn't released times yet. They were also supposedly blowing motors mid-lap....:

Obviously, the GT3 RS having only 518hp and running the times that it does proves that HP isn't the key to a fast time. As does the minor improvements between the times of the different Corvette models

People are also forgetting the GTD has a literal race suspension on it while the C8 is on a production suspension used in the rest of the Corvette line. A bigger advantage than the power.

let's see more times for both cars at more tracks. And who knows maybe Chevrolet will have Lars Kern have a run in the ZR1

The GTD does have linkage style rear suspension, but it's in road tune apparently. Several exotics are running similar set ups.
I tend to agree with Charoudan that the mid engine layout gives the C8 an advantage over the GTD. Better drive out of corners for one, probably lower CdA as well.
As he pointed out, the C8 needs a Pro driver, specialist in the Nordschliefe.
The GT3RS is effectively a race car roughly 3 times the price of the ZR1, you'd expect it to be super quick around a track.

Yup. I agree with him. Starting from a mid engine sports car layout is wayyyy more advantageous than starting from a front engine grand tourer layout.
