How does this screw push pin work?

For some reason nothing comes easy when I work on my car.

I'm trying to install the rock guards and the front ones were easy. Had the make the holes in the mud guards wider and that's it.

But the rear ones is a pain in the ass. Not because of the mud flaps, but because I can't get the push pin out of the fender liner.

It looks like it has a screwdriver insert in the middle section, but when I turn it, it keeps on turning without getting loose. Even when I keep the outside of the push pin in place so that it won't turn with the inside when using a screwdriver.

The only way to get this out I guess is to force it out by braking it, but I don't have any push pins to replave it with, so not going for that route yet.

Any idea how thos works?

Yeah, first I want to figure out how to remove it without breaking it.

For me I need to wait at least 2 to 3 weeks before I can order those push pins in case I brake it since we don't have automotive stores on the island that sell these.

its just like a screw but in a push clip and also really easy to strip out. once you back it out enough, the clip can be removed without damage

I tried a lot of force with a trim removal tool, but it didn't work. More force means maybe braking it.

What do I have to do with the middle part where the x is located for the screwdriver? I tried using a screwdriver but it keeps spinning.

The plastic strips easy.

as you spin the screw loose, take a pick or something and gently apply pressure under the screw itself (not under the base where the screw goes in). gently apply the pressure upwards and the screw should spin itself out

if the screwdriver is spinning in the screw, the clip is stripped out. if the head of the screw is also spinning, the clip may be internally broken, or there may be another way to assist it out

Alright. That means I have to order some push pins before I force that thing out with a trim removal tool.

You'll have to replace the push pin anyway, but atleast this'll get it out without going goblin mode on everything

Thanks for the picture. So actually I have to handle it the same as a regular push pin.

Lift the screw part up with a trim removal rool and then lift the whole push pin up and just ignore that x.

Yeah, exactly like a regular push pin.

The screw simply spreads the base outwards and locks it in place.

This style of push pin works great when its brand new, but after it swaps hands between a few other mechanics, it gets fucked up real bad.

By gently applying that pressure upwards, you can usually still spin those threads out unless they are totally fucked.

I think they are broken then. It keeps spinning.

I had my car rust protected and undercoated 3 months ago. So all those push pins are already went out of the car once.

Its still worth a try.

Otherwise just take the knipex out and cut it off.
