Hi guys, I recently purchased a used 2024 Mustang GT premium. There are a few flaws in the interior from the previous owner, the console's 12v cover being broken off was one of them. After watching a few videos of other Ford vehicles getting the cover repaired and reading a few threads on Mustang6G/7G, I took it upon myself to replace the cover thinking it'd be a 10-15 minute job. Little did I know this would become a 2 hour marathon.
I ended up purchasing FR3Z-19A487-AB as the broken off cap had engraved information that pointed to that part. To begin, I opened the center console and used some picks to push the plastic tabs of the 12v cover past the metal cylinder of the 12v socket. Then, I was able to pull the 12v socket out of the receptacle, but I couldn't remove it fully due to the 12v socket's power connector being deep within the console. So, I took it upon myself to remove the center console trim. This is a pretty straight forward process, I just had to pull the PRNDM cover and then remove the shiftboot trim from the console. Unfortunately, I did break one of the clip holders on the console trim when removing the shiftboot trim, with one broken piece ending up on my wireless charger and the other ending up in the void (no idea where it is). Then, I pulled the side trim pieces in each footwell and unscrewed the 7mm screws. From here, I was able to separate the console trim and unplug the parking brake.
With the console trim off, I was able to disconect the 12v socket's power connector by using a pick to disengage the plastic tab that holds the connector in place. Then, I replaced the 12v cover. Unfortunately, the cover I purchased is ever-so-slightly different than the 2024's cover, so the cap is now opening upwards instead of to the side. I slid the plastic cap into the empty receptacle, then inserted the 12v socket in, and reconnected the power connector. I was able to reverse my steps and get everything back together. After a quick drive, I am happy to confirm that the 12v socket and parking brake still work, the shifter isn't getting stuck on a small shard of plastic, and I don't hear any rattling from the console area after disassembly. I figured I would share my horror story for any poor soul that took it upon themselves to fix their 12v cover, if broken.
TLDR: If your 12v cover is ever broken, let the dealership handle it lol.
