6 speed Whippled Dark Horse fun/fast?

Anyone have a Whipple Dark Horse with a 6-speed Tremec transmission? My last few Mustangs were a 2020 GT500, a 2018 Whipple Mustang A10, and a 6-speed 2016 Roush-charged GT, which I hated. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Dark Horse with a 6-speed & dealer adding the whipple, but I'm wondering if it will handle the power and be as fun to drive as my 2016 was not. Any input would be great. Thank you. I hear the tremic transmission is amazing I just don't want to be disappointed in the way the car drives. I sold my 2016 a month after I supercharged it. This Dark Horse will be dealer supercharged.

A 6 speed with a Whipple should be plenty of fun

Just read the fine print, if you blow the transmission they are only going to cover $2,000, which is BS because it'll probably cost that much to just remove and re-install it!

Wasn't fun to drive. 6 speed jerked around and felt like too much power for the transmission. So unenjoyable I sold the car a month later. My last 2 cars have been supercharged autos

As far as I can remember, the Tremec 3160 isn't rated highly on torque like the camaro's Tremec 6060. (Correct, had to look it up) It's rated around 430 ft-lb compared to 700 ft-lb.

Not sure what you mean by that it jerked around a lot. The car itself or the transmission? The car itself is (to me) far more planted and handles the power much better than the 550. My main complaint would be that the rev hang sucks between shifts. (rev match on and off) My first to second shift is a solid 1+ seconds, which I'm guessing would only be compounded. But starting in second would probably be preferable in most cases anyways.

I've had about 10 S550's from track cars to blown drag cars. I do believe the Dark Horse is in a much better place (S650 in general) when it comes to putting the power down better. Now will adding 300 horsepower change that? Of course it will, but I do believe it will be better overall. Unfortunately, I do believe a lot of it comes down to Ford and their software for traction control/suspension. For example, I came from a 2020 ZL1 that spent a lot of time on the track and on the road. Much more torque, and HP stock than a GT or DH, and that thing was literal glue. It put down power in a way that shouldn't be doable in a 50k dollar muscle car. The 6 speed software was magic. Zero rev hangs, it would take your shifts as fast as you could throw them and never a rough shift. You could shift mid corner, didn't matter. The DH is the closest I've been to my ZL1 in terms of handling feel.

Ford's software team I think just misses the mark a LOT of the time. Just look at the A10 software. A decent amount of jerkiness, skipping gears, slamming into gear, almost causing accidents. The same 10 speed in the camaro is butter. Wish they would work together to iron out Ford's software.

When you mention jerking around, I wonder if your issue was due to the clutch or the tune. The supercharger shouldn't really factor into the way the car drives unless you are past 3/4 throttle.

The tremec is highly overrated.

A 3 pedal blower car is gonna be a blast as long as you’re not trying to win races and more into getting sideways anywhere and everywhere.

Do we know if the Whipple Supercharged cars, with the tune provided from Whipple, removes the governor of 156mph? would think it would be silly if they didn't as the Whipple'd car would hit the governor rather quickly.

i cant recommend supercharging something with the Tremec TR-3160. the one the Mustang uses (configuration C) is rated for 405 lb-ft on a 6600 lbs vehicle. i have no idea if this actually works like this, but ChatGPT says that the TR-3160 config C should be able to handle ~653 lb-ft on a 4100 lbs vehicle, what i think a Dark Horse with a supercharger would weigh. it calculated that by doing
new torque rating = original torque rating * (original torque rating weight / new torque rating weight).
the 10R80 on the other hand, is much more capable and, as far as i know, the weak point is the clutch packs at around 800 or 900 lb-ft, but the actual internals can take even more than that. even if you dont want the 10R80, using the equation from before on the MT-82's original rating (370 lb-ft on a 9500 lbs vehicle) says it can take ~857 lb-ft, making it better than the TR-3160. of course, going above the rated torque does not mean the transmission will suddenly shatter like glass the moment you go over, but it looks like the MT-82 might give you more room to put something like a smaller pulley on it with less worry

I've got the Stage 2 setup on my manual GT and it's nasty! So far the transmission is holding up without any issues on the 3.6250 pulley. However I'm putting a Calimer Stage 2 in it with a new Mcleod RXT, Viking double adjustable rears and some Kelltrac adjustable struts. Tossing some slicks on it and will pulley it down to a 3.250" for my next trip to the track.

Whether it's a auto or manual you're gonna love the Whipple setup.

Hi all....can't speak to the manual but just got my whipple finished about a week ago. She was fun before but now she takes fun to the next level. For those of you waiting, my opinion, you just can't go wrong if you decide to pull the trigger.....auto or stick!!
