"Mercedes-Benz is recalling 5,326 of its 2022-2023 AMG SL55 and AMG SL63 vehicles because the starter and alternator electrical wiring harness may not be in the right place, according to an NHTSA report. This can cause a short circuit and a loss of drive power, which may cause the harness to overheat. This can either increase the risk of a crash or increase the risk of a fire."

Oh yeah, and 230,000 Ford Explorers recalled cause they are rolling away.

And that's some of the AMG models which are roughly equivalent to Shelby models in that they get extra tweaks and loving care on them from AMG. You'd think someone would have caught this.

Exactly why I am taking a chance on MY24

I have 1500km on mine and I have just a couple gripes.

1. This one may be my fault just because I'm not used to it, but my other car is a chrysler 300 (V6) and I could get 600km+ on a full tank. With the mustang using more has and having a much smaller tank, I get maybe 350km. I'm not upset to much about the fuel economy, I just wish it had a bigger tank. But maybe the size is normal for coupes?

The mustang always has had a smaller tank. It used to be 15.4 gallons but somewhere they bumped it to 16. The V8 engine seems to really suck fuel in stop and go driving. I am still experimenting but with careful driving I think you can do a bit better than 16 miles per gallon. I haven't done freeway driving yet but you should be able to get close to 30 miles per gallon. On a trip, 400 miles on a tank should be possible. This depends greatly on a light foot on the gas and using cruse control at a reasonable speed.

Exactly why I am taking a chance on MY24

Right, I know everyone says don't buy the first model year but the Coyote has been around since 2011 so I don't feel like I'm taking a huge risk mechanically speaking and the rest of the driveline / suspension isn't that much different than the S550. While there is a lot of new technology in the screens it's powered by the Unreal engine which has been well established as one of the best gaming engines for a long time. If the car proves to be unreliable in my mind ( consistently in the shop more than once per year ) I will just sell it.

I wanted to get back into a Mustang after trading my highly modded 18GT for a 2022 Explorer Timberline. Loved that Explorer but, zero regrets getting the 650. Sans my old ass man back getting in and out LOL. I love this car.

Yup, and I have been trying to get into a new Mustang since 2011 when the 5.0 first came back. I gradually made more and more money since then but things kept popping up and the Mustang kept gradually getting more and more expensive. Eventually you just have to accept that there is rarely a perfect time in life for anything. Even if I waited for the future refresh so I could buy the car outright who is to say I will even like the refresh? If I love it for some reason I will trade in for it but I kind of doubt that based on what the EPA has been up to. Even if I loved the styling of the future refresh, the V8 could be an automatic only hybrid with auto start / stop by then. If the manual still exists then, skip shift might be added now that the manual got slapped with the gas guzzler tax. I don't have a crystal ball obviously and I hate to sound like a pessimist but combining everything I know about the automotive industry, the economy, the government and the EPA I only see bad news and unwanted features in the future for purists / enthusiasts at this point.

From what I heard it was possible the manual was going to get it somehow too. I was second guessing the idea of it but I'm guessing if you are at a stop pressing the brake pedal and in neutral the car would turn off if they wanted to put it on manual cars as well. The car would then automatically start again when you press the clutch in. NO THANKS!!

I don’t see how they think it saves on gas when it starts and stops even when you’re just sitting there after awhile. starting and stopping uses just as much gas. I think the rev does too, when you have that on and your’e downshifting

Yea, they might introduce skip shift later on too which would make you go from 1st to 3rd or 4th or however they want to program it really. I would absolutely despise either feature ( auto start/stop or skip shift ) on a manual and it could get both down the road. I have a gas getter for my daily driver. I didn't buy a near 500 horsepower Mustang convertible to save gas. I drive it sparingly when the weather is nice just to have fun. I don't need the government along for the ride. A Mustang is about freedom!
