I would guess the former. It mainly shows up on backroads and it goes away when I turn off lane assist.

I just have a simple question? I am aware that Ford (and everyone else too!) no longer print specific to VIN owners manuals. They should, however, publish specific ones on line, which could easily be tied to any one VIN. They don't even do that! However, you can still download the generic one, and find out all sorts of things (some not applicable to your VIN) including the dash warning icons. So, why didn't you download and read it?

It's chaff/flares. Means it's armed and working to intercept any inbound HS/IR missiles.

Well then mine doesn't work, because I nailed a carcass at about 60-65 today and it didn't come on. Service department, here I come !
Fortunately for me it was flattened enough to be about the height of the splitter.
