I recently installed the VMP stage 2 Whipple S/C. The kit came with a fuel pump voltage booster. I went ahead and installed it. I didn’t install the 40A fuse because the fuel pump fuse for the S650 is already 40A. After I installed it I noticed a weird ratcheting sound when I unlock and open my door. I disconnected the BAP and returned it to stock and the noise stopped. Pretty sure the noise is the fuel pump. I ran a BAP on my S197 and never heard the fuel pump make noise like that.

Is anyone running a BAP on their setup? If so, am I doing something wrong? Does the whipple tune even account for a BAP?

ETA: I reinstalled the BAP, no more noise heard. Drove it around, drives great. No issues.

I can’t speak to the noise as i haven’t installed mine yet.
But the BAP on my foxbody made my fuel pump sound like a dang laser beam… the difference between 14V of power vs 18V of power.

A BAP should have no affect on the tune at all, just maintaining higher fuel pressures at higher HP levels.

I’m just going to let it eat. I brought up the tuning because there’s a warning sticker on the saying that tuning is required to prevent damage to the fuel pump, but there are only calibration recommendations for 1999-2017 models in the instructions. Nothing for 2018+. It appears the fuse replacement and tuning aren’t required for this model.

Thank you for the response.

Bringing this back as I just installed mine and heard noise described.
Going to go put gas in and listen over the next few startups

I’ve been running it since I started this thread. No issues, but the noise hasn’t stopped. I’ve just been living with it.

The noise happens for me when the car is off and I open the door to get in. The only time it doesn’t happen is if the car has been running recently.

Ok that makes sense, because I went and got fuel and ran around a bit and didn’t notice it.
I’ll see next time it’s cold but, no worries I see.

What pulley/fuel are you on? Any timeslips?

3.75” pulley on 93 octane. I’m kind of in a holding pattern until this thing is tunable. I haven’t even put headers on yet. Just springs, wheels, tires and corsa cat-back.

I haven’t had a chance to take it to the track yet.

Are you running a 3.5” pulley?

Not yet but it’s on my counter, I did put kooks LTs on before I had the whipple, didn’t want to risk any 🐱 failure

Filled up in e35 roughly today with 3.75 pulley and BAP.

Awesome. I am kind of worried about my cats, but I don’t drive the car a ton and I ran 11 psi on my S197 gen 1 coyote with cats for a while with no issues. I just crossed 3,000 miles.

Do you have any time slips? Give an update after you start running it with the 3.5” pulley. I’m interested to hear how it goes.

Side note, is your cold start idle at ~1200 rpm rough and choppy? Mine has been rough at 1200 rpm then it drops to 1,000 rpm after a minute or so and smooths out. I’m thinking about doing the crank relearn on it.

Uploaded the updated tune for M/Ts from whipple. It fixed the weird ratcheting noise.

That plug and play BAP isn't anything new it came on the Whipple stage 2 kits back in 2015 so it's not a VMP made part I would bet.

I'm running a JMS BAP and about to install it. I'm curious about the Whipple update. Did you get this from Whipple website or did you request through their calibration service?

Request calibration through their calibration service on their website. They’ll send it to you via email with instructions for install.

It’s not new. Same one they’ve been using for several years now.
