For those of you who aren't sure if speed cameras/red light cameras and now these decibel meters are anything OTHER than a cash grab let me enlighten you.

I live in a city that had a massive speeding problem. They spent over 13 million dollars installing speed+red light cameras on every single intersection and road in town. After 4 years they had raked in over 80 million dollars from tickets and saw a 3% reduction in speeding. Seeing how my city is financially well off and didn't actually need the money and just wanted to reduce speeding rates they made the decision to deactivate the cameras and use the profits earned from the system to reinvest in a higher police presence in areas known for speeding and accidents, revamping road infrastructure to reduce the likelihood of speeding via human nature and psychology (narrower roads, bigger sidewalks, more street parking, etc ) as well as community projects such as increased parks, playgrounds, green spaces, basketball courts and the like.

Speeding and accident rates have fallen by over 60% in the year and a half since that decision was made and there are continued efforts to upgrade the city and make it a better place to live.
