Are there any fault codes or other messages when removing the tcu? And is the car still drivable?

Yes, you can still drive it. For sure there will be codes if you scan it. Not sure if there will be any hard faults on the dash, but even if there are, you can still drive it safely.

APIM and ECG would report only about Lost Communication, nothing more.
