You cannot use a phone in that way as far as I am aware without hacking it. You can try putting the phone in 'file transfer mode' for that connection but I wouldn't hold your breath.Android. Im referring to direct plug in not Bluetooth.
You can play music from the phone using BT Audio
You can play music from the phone using Android Auto on Sync
You can use a USB drive with music on it.
iPhones can support direct playback because they still have the old iPod software on them but Android never had this. Having said that it was always a bit flaky with an iPod on Sync 2 or 3.
