You cannot use a phone in that way as far as I am aware without hacking it. You can try putting the phone in 'file transfer mode' for that connection but I wouldn't hold your breath.

You can play music from the phone using BT Audio

You can play music from the phone using Android Auto on Sync

You can use a USB drive with music on it.

iPhones can support direct playback because they still have the old iPod software on them but Android never had this. Having said that it was always a bit flaky with an iPod on Sync 2 or 3.

I hope this isn't sidetracking the topic too much. Has anyone found out what the limit is on the number of songs on a USB drive that Sync 4 can index for voice commands? I've seen elsewhere that it is about 6,000 songs, but I'm not sure I trust that source.
