Doing a few upgrades to my 2025 Dark Horse HP.

I have been looking at he Steeda short throw shifter and a couple people have recommeneded the MGW Shifter instead.

I know the Steeda is just a the shifter lever it self and the MGW is full replacement. The pull up for reverse currenlty doesn't bother me so that really isn't a factor.

Thanks,

JB

Cant go wrong with either both are great options. MGW has some more options to choose from. Let me know if I can help get you setup with either one

I looked at the Steeda... Sorry but wasn't impressed with it because it really doesn't address the problems with the stock plastic parts of the shifter, which for me and others I talked to as a concern.

Went with MGW, very high quality parts and was impressed with how everything was packaged and labeled.

can i ask you more about your experience between the stock tremec and the MGW upgrade GregB. I feel like the stock transmission/shifting experience is very good in the darkhorse. especially when i compare it with my wifes 21 gts mt82. How does MGWs device elevate the shifting/driving experience exactly???

I don't have a Tremec, a 2024 Dark Horse has the Getrag MT-82 but it's the same from a shifter point of view from what I understand.

The stock shifter for the MT-82 from Ford is all plastic internals that actuate a cast aluminum arm that is not straight... Review the install video here ->

The MGW Shifter is quite a feat of engineering in my opinion compared to Barton which I also looked into, however the Barton uses the stock cast aluminum arm which I wasn't impressed about. Although my friend in our car club has the Barton and it shifts really nice and smooth... I'm hoping the same for the MGW, just haven't had the chance to install it yet... will probably do that before I put it away for the winter, so no I don't have any real world experience yet with the MGW, however others I spoke to in this forum recommended the MGW.

I believe you're wrong, you should have the tremec, mine is a 24.

GregB - you should triple check that you purchased the right MGW shift kit to match the transmission in your car.

Definitely update us on the driving/shifting experience when you get everything installed Id love to hear your thoughts

Or if anyone else has installed the MGW kit in their gt350, mach1 or darkhorse and wants to chime in - please do

My Dark Horse is an auto, but my Corvette is a manual and I have nothing but praise for the MGW shifter I put in it.

I actually love the stock DH shifter….I find it to be the best factory shifter of any car I’ve ever had…..after market shifters seem to have heat issues…..

I'm quite sure I ordered the correct model of shifter for my car...

I feel the same way and thats why i hesitate to consider an mgw shifter. my experience with manual transmissions is limited to some 60s sports cars, a 90s chevy S10, an 80s 4runner and my wifes 21 GT mt82 as well as a handful of international cheap rental cars. This darkhorse is really my first and only access to what i would consider a 'higher quality' manual experience. ive never been able to row the gears in a new supra, porsche or otherwise semi high end sports car. so my lifetime list of comparisons is probably meaningless in the scheme of things

the enemy of good is perfect right? id hate to screw this up by looking for perfection haha.

Yeah the build sheet says Tremec but I've already been told by others in this forum it's the MT-82
As far as I know all manual transmission Dark Horses came with the Tremec, but I’m no authority on the matter either.

And ’m not trying to discredit anyone here (because there are people here with tremendous amounts of knowledge), but you can’t seriously believe that people on an internet forum, who have never been under your car and visually inspected it, have more knowledge about what parts were actually installed on it than the company that built it…do you?

I'm not gonna argue... It was a knowledgeable source when I asked another question about the availability of a scatter shield for the bellhousing, which is part of the MT-82 housing and not separate like a Tremec.

I've been under the car and am quite knowledgeable about equipment on this car...

I'm sorry, your source told you wrong. If you have a manual Dark Horse, you have a tremec tr3160, not a getrag mt82. Just as the Mach 1 got before it.
