Hi, I have a 2005 Ford Mustang and recently, it has been shutting off on me while I am driving, with all of the parts of the dashboard dropping to 0 and the car doesn’t start back up. My mechanic couldn’t figure out the issue as the battery is working fine and it ended up working fine in the morning, but now we suspect there is an issue with overheating. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Did your mechanic hook up a scan tool? That's the first thing to check. You say you think it's overheating, is the gauge reading high before things shut down?

Is the ac on? I’ve seen it happen but not all that often but if the ac compressor freezes as in seizes not ices, it will prevent it from running/cranking.

but now we suspect there is an issue with overheating.
You're welcome to stay with us, but you might find deeper insight in an 5G, S197 forum.

In the 6G and 7G cars, when a car does begin overheating, it will go into limp mode while shutting things down, in an attempt to prevent further damage.

Are you the original owner? If not, how long have you had the car?

Is the car modified?

Has the maintenance schedule been followed?

When did it begin exhibiting this behavior?

Does it only happen when certain services or items are turned on?

I see you've got a temperature gauge. How does it display? Especially before the event.

How quickly does the car begin to overheat?

What does the oil look like? Normal or milky?

Are you losing coolant?

Are you losing oil?

Is the exhaust displaying a smoke appearing white? Blue?

How often is this happening?

How does the car recover? When it's cooled off again?

Take it to a Ford dealer and pay the money to have it properly diagnosed….
What Upacurb said. No disrespect intended, but if you can't diagnose what's going on when you have physical access to the car/systems, it's not likely a group of strangers can do it over the internet.

Your Mustang needs the attention of a skilled technician, with access to a full array of diagnostic equipment and the latest software to properly trouble shoot your issue/s.

Best of luck getting it sorted!
