Let me start by saying ive had 0 issues with my 400a gt premium (other than a flat tire) until just now. I stopped at the shell about a mile from my house to get a drink and figured i’d fuel up while there. I had a little over half a tank and I’ve only ever used 91/93. After fueling i take off and as soon as i pull out i notice the CEL is on. shortly after i got a notification (see below) on my fordpass, anyone have this happen or any explanation? I should note I had the axleback MBRP race exhaust installed about 2k+ miles before this (around 6k miles and now at 8500) thanks in advance.

Nothing to do with getting fuel. It is an issue with your AVE. Pinched wire, melted wire, short, or solenoid itself. If your AVE is using the OEM valves go to the dealer. If it is using MBRP, you will need to contact them. Let us know what you find.

That’s what i was afraid of. It’s using OEM valves. I have a trip planned for next weekend, involving a 6 1/2 drive. Hopefully my local dealership can get this taken care of before then. Thanks for your reply

Update: Went to the dealership over my lunch break to schedule an appointment. They got me in for tomorrow morning (they take great care of me) and when i got in my car after work the check engine light magically disappeared. I plan on still taking it in for them to look at as i have a 7 hour roadtrip planned for saturday.

Update 2: Went to the dealership 8/20 but with no check engine light currently on they said they have no way of pulling a code. I thought there was a way to pull it from some kinda history? My service advisor told me it was more than likely “bad gas” (i only use shell 93) or the fuel door didnt seal all the way, i wasn’t too jazzed about the few answers i got. Although i wasn’t too worried about it as it went away, they told me to bring it straight in next time it came about and to not make an appointment.

Fast forward to today; I’ve been driving my 03 ranger around the past few days and decided to take the mustang to run the last few errands before leaving town tomorrow morning, and again the CEL pops up. Unfortunately it was around 6pm and the service center just closed. I pulled the code and it is code P26FE, from my understanding it has something to do with the valved exhaust and could be anything. I will be taking the car back to the dealership next week when i get back, assuming the CEL is still on.

That’s just laziness. I think there are some that are transient and some that are persistent, but it’s what... 3 minutes to check, that includes me signing into my FORSCAN computer which they don’t have to do...

Let’s just say ive been less than pleased with their service department, this isnt the first instance (with the mustang) or vehicle that they have given me the run around on.

Yeah, some are great, some are average and some are neither of those things.

So true. At my local mom pop dealer, the techs and parts guys are EXCELLENT. I would buy parts from them all the time for my 03 GT and got excellent advice on install / tech tips as well. Example, soak and heat the locking bolt for the cross shaft pin in the 8.8 diffy as it tends to snap which causes a nightmare. Great team. The service writers vary.

For a P26FE DTC, here is what the Shop Manual says.
P26FE:00 Exhaust Flow Control Valve 'A' Control Performance: No Sub Type J: RH TAILPIPE ACTUATOR FAULTS (Electronic Engine Controls - 5.0L 32V TiVCT (359kW/486PS) (WU)/5.0L Ti-VCT

There are several pinpoint tests but I would take a look under the car and see if any of the wires to the actuator are hitting the hot exhaust pipe etc. The other thing I would do is have someone start the car while you are looking at the actuator. Wait about 60 seconds for it to settle down and then have the other person switch from normal, to sport to track and back again and see if you can see the actuator moving... The dealer probably should have done this based upon your description of the problem.

Thank you for the advice! Everytime i walk up to my car (it unlocks obviously) but it sounds like the actuator is fluttering to an open/closed position at a very fast pace. Ill see if i cant get the sound on video, but i doubt it will pickup. My dealer is great overall, my salesman and I have a great relationship as I’m about to buy a car for my girlfriend from him (this will be my 4th vehicle from him). I find that building a relationship with a dealer/salesman is better than chasing the extra xxx amount of dollars “cheaper”. Hoping they can get this taken care of as I’ve been looking at adding a raptor (used) to the stable from them, but I’m weary of buying more vehicles from said dealer
