Any of my Carbonized Gray Metallic people here have luck with a touch up paint source? I’ve ordered from Dr Colorchip and TouchUp Direct and they’re both way too dark.

I’ve had great luck with TouchUp Direct in the past, and since it almost matches the Dr Colorchip version I’m worried all other suppliers will have the same hue.

Photo of my boy next to the GT as a thanks for helping here 😁

When I got my CG s650, it had 500 miles on it, and ford used it on a track maybe, there were a couple of light chips, and the dealer gave me a Ford branded touchup, and the color matched perfectly.. now my abilities to make it perfect are lacking, but it's better than seeing the chip.

Let me know, I can try to zoom in of my "touch up" and show the color matches, but my finish technique aint perfect, and I can get you a pic.

That would be perfect, yes please. No critiques of who can repair a chip better here, I just need the right color!

I have to leave in about an hour, I’ll score a couple pics so you can see the match.👍

ok so It’s cold in my garage, and the lights are Meh. But this scratch was down to metal, and it looks like I could add a little more paint, but the color seemed to be exact.

The color looks great. Thank you! I’ll have to take a photo of the one spot I did. It’s much darker.

Just to confirm for the Ford paint you got, did it come in a Motorcraft pen like this? I want to get the color right this time.

Yes sir. In fact I drove like 3 hours to get the car, and when we were making the deal I asked for it, they handed me a box with some other customers name on it..

24GTBadland's came out perfect, looks great.

I also got the OEM Ford color code Carbonized Grey touch-up paint and it was slightly darker than the car's paint. In the real world, not very noticeable, but just a datapoint.

Not what I want to hear Will!

24GTBadlands, thanks for the details. I'm ordering the exact part number now.

This is the Dr Colorchip and TouchUp Direct together. This is exactly how they look in person, a few too many shades darker:

edit: just for reference, this photo was taken under the exact same lighting as the first photo I shared of my GT

The Ford paint did behave very nicely, way better than the 2000’s paint. Flowed well, but me both being an artist is an issue. Supposed to be a little drier out here soon… there was water in my driveway… so no reason to move it, but I WILL get you a sunshine photo so you can feel confident.

that first sample looks more driers than paint. The second one looks like a better product, the Ford stuff seemed like good old Testors model paint, but more manageable. When I’ve had it in the sun I dont even notice it which is more important. It has the correct paint smell.

Totally agree. That was after about 3 minutes of shaking the container too. That's the one from TouchUp Direct. Total junk.

I've had good results from touchupdirect. Since they (I presume) mix up a micro batch of paint for each order, I can see where it could easily be off just a little bit. Metallic paint is even more difficult, as we all probably know.

Thanks to this thread, when it comes time to do a touchup on my car, I guess I'll just go to my friendly Ford dealer and pay their outrageous price.

Please update when you get your oem touch up pen, I have a carbonized gray dr colorchip kit in my basement that I’m waiting to apply to a few spots when the weather warms up and wondering if I’ll have the same issue.
