If it is a new vehicle, it is covered under warrant. Sales people don’t know squat. The local dealer should fix it by regulation, but if they want to be an ass about it, they have the advantage. Just make sure that it is fixed by a reputable body shop that is certified in aluminum paint repair. This is why it is important to select the dealer as well as what car you buy.
I bought a paint pen plan to remove the intake tube and all will visible for me to fix. The paint pen has the original color along with the clear coat. I plan to treat it just like a rock chip. Clean the area two coats of paint and two coats of clear and call it good.

should I apply primer as well? Or is the ford paint pen good enough? I’m not looking to make it pretty as it is under the hood and in such an inconspicuous area I just want to make sure I am treating it correctly. But I’m assuming treating it like I would a rock chip just the same.

Hood is aluminium. Will not rust the same way as a steel hood. The bare spot needs a primer. I'm not sure on your abilities. I would mask all areas off and spray. You can go to an auto paint supply which can mix paint and put it in a spray can. It won't take much paint. The extra can be used in the future. Sometimes you are better off doing things yourself. Some dealers don't have a paint shop and farm out the work.
Is the rustoleum automobile primer any good?

That will work as long as the paint types are compatible.

Sucks to buy this whole can for something half the size of my pinky fingernail. How could I verify that the paint types are compatible. Using primer is new for me.

Having steel fenders and being what is basically the passenger fender well. The spot of bare metal has already been treated. From my reading you would use a self etching primer to prepare the surface in normal situations for painting. But thinking about it this way makes it clearer. My car was fully painted at one time it was only not painted once somebody at ford wasn’t careful and dinged the paint. So in this situation cleaning the area applying a few coats of base coat with the pen and then clear on top would be perfect.

If you had gone with the Dr. Color Chip, you wouldn't need primers, it would also provide a smoother, less obvious finish.

I don’t want it to be pretty just protected. It’s such an awkward spot I’m okay with it not being perfect. As long as it’s protected. I’ll be getting to fix it tomorrow will post update once finished.

Completed the work. Initially I was going to try and make it work by using the little space I had but then I realized that was not going to happen. After inspecting the area for literally 15 minutes and making sure I saw absolutely no signs of rust. I cleaned the surface placed 3 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. Pictures from start to finish. Now I can relax knowing this is covered. Thanks for the replies and suggestions everyone.
