I'm Gen X (barely) and over 50. My wife is a year older and a Boomer. I think us who were Gen X kids straddle old tech and new tech well. PCs came out when we were youngish and cell phones became commonplace not long afterward. But... I still remember rotary dial phones and those old AM crystal...
Is taking out AM radio going to save them any money or space? No. It might be more about the younger demographic who will be buying these cars in the future. Ford is good at cheaping out on the dumbest things but this may not be one of those things.
I listen to talk radio a great deal, which...
HP has been climbing nicely in the GT in this generation but the torque, not so much. It’s just a product of having a 5.0 displacement. Now, a gob more torque would be exciting but I would be gobsmacked if Ford decided to increase displacement, considering where their competitors are headed...
It’s good for Ford. They will have more exclusivity with tunes/upgrades and less people tampering with their cars. Often, aftermarket solutions are hokey and questionable in regard to passing inspections. The federal govt is taking “for off-road use only” more serious, and it won’t get any...
Seems like all manufacturers are going to larger grilles. Once we get dragged, kicking and screaming into the EV age there will be no need for them at all. We are so used to things looking a certain way. The Tesla front end still looks strange to me, like a small watercraft.
I kind of like what’s happening with the rear taillights and the hood vent, and I’m still on the fence about the grill. The rest of the exterior is a nope for me. The dash is perhaps the biggest disappointment IMO. Looks like a giant iPad. I mean, the two brow dash is iconic, they could have...
To me, the gill lights (and gills in the old ones) set the Mustang apart. I'd hate to see that element go. Cars are becoming so generic looking these days. Part of that is regulation and part of it is aero for fuel economy but still, the little things make a difference.
Ford could be covering their bases in the event that hydrogen becomes a thing. Getting a patent for the technology is a good idea.
Lithium-ion batteries are going away at some point. There's a lot of exciting things happening with battery tech these days. I think at some point, improvements...
A hybrid would be the best of both worlds. It would have better mileage (like we care... but the gubbamit you know). Then there’s all that sound AND more hp like many of the supercars now. I don’t want to drive something devoid of sound. Why not at least give it the note of an amplified blender...
Valid points that a lot of greenies don't consider. I don't worry about us being able to build more power generation, but it also can't happen overnight. Power storage is definitely a limiter with current technology. Breakthroughs in battery technology are needed before we can make the big leap...
I sat in a '16 Camaro over the weekend at an auto show. It still suffers from the same poor visibility as before. The rear quarter window is essentially useless and really no more than a styling element. The interior does seem nicer however. The shifter felt solidly mounted but a bit vague to me...
Yes. Mfrs can lighten by using materials like carbon fiber (look at exotics). Exotics are also a lot more than $40k. It's a trade off. I think we WILL see lighter cars as time goes on due to improvements in mfg. I believe the coming MPG standards will force car makers to use more aluminum...
Isn't it true that mfrs are allowed X number of vehicles that do not meet standards in regard to fuel economy? If so, V8s could simply become a more expensive and exclusive option. Then there is the hybrid tech being used in top exotics that could render some decent fuel ratings. Or we could be...
