My MT86 trans in my GT has a little gear whine in 1st and also slightly less so in 2nd. I actually like the sound, but to hear real whine, listen to an old Muncie M22 in 1st gear, now that's gear whine!. These' are just some of the aural delights we get to listen to in some high performance...
Has anyone removed the Mustang from their grill? At the time I ordered my car the NPP option was on restriction and since I wanted my car without delay I didn't order it with NPP, but now I see that I really dislike that shiny Mustang (horse, pony, whatever) sitting in the middle of the grill...
Wow, thanks Skye for that link. Very interesting and now at least I'll know where my car might show up one day. I didnt see any 6sp manual Mustangs though so maybe I'm safe? LOL
I ran Redline oil in the transmissions of both my E92 M3ās and it really made shifting slicker than snot. I would love to use it in my MT86 trans but Redline doesnāt list a compatible oil for it yet on their website, but if and when they do itās a no brainer to switch.
Ok, modified I get but the cars stock from the factories got nowhere near the 12ās. Whatās nice today is we can get into the 11-12s stock with street tires and with the ac blasting!
Mid 12's on a stock 80's street car? I'm not doubting that you didn't but in 1968 I had a SS/BA Mustang that ran 11.80's with a ton of work to it and wouldn't even think of trying to run it (well that part isn't quite true š ) on the street.
Ah, the days of the manual choke! But how about when the auto choke would stick closed in the middle of the winter requiring you to jump out of the car, raise the hood, take the top of the air cleaner off and poke the closed choke plate open with a screwdriver. Great memories!
The cars that Revology are building are basically a modern car under a ā66 body, so they would probably be entirely livable on a daily basis and If you have an extra $286,285. (base) burning a hole in your pocket, go for it!
My point was that living with one of the old muscle cars in stock...
The Shelby GT350 was rated at 306 gross hp, but in actuality its output in today's Net ratings would be something on the order of 250hp or less. Of course there is a big weight difference, on the order of around 400 lbs. between a 1966 GT350 and today's Ecoboost Mustang. So let's be generous and...
I would agree with you if it happened as I let the clutch out but since it happens with the clutch in and there is no decernable clutch drag, I believe then it must be something else.
Ok then as it seems repeatable to others, I'll just chalk this up to a normal Mustang noise like the infamous engine tick. Thanks everyone for participating.
I appreciate all the responses, all these methods will work to keep a person from grinding gears going into 1st from a stop, but this muffled thud noise comes from the back of the car, not the trans.
It was called double clutching and Iām old enough to remember having to do it. I assure you, the clutch has been in long enough for the internals to stop turning before I shift into first But it still happens on occasion.
I had a ā72 Alfa GTV that you couldnāt just drop it into first gear from...
This doesn't happen all the time with my GT PP 6sp, but when I'm sitting at a light, dead stop with the clutch out and I push the clutch to the floor, I pause for a second and select 1st gear, there is a slight thunk, more felt than heard but the strange part is it doesn't feel like its coming...
