That's a cowl brace and it's not exclusive to the Dark Horse. They come on GTs with 20in wheels and PP cars. Same with the S550s.

Sorry, but that is such an urban legend. There is no data to support that other than anicdotal stories. Hell my 2015 GT was the most reliable car I ever owned. Not one service issue in 7 years. These problems can happen on any year. No need to look for conspiracies.
